really ? is that litterary licence, or veracious ? do you know what it looked like ? the one i used was invented far more recently (1960's).

Well, the wikipipedia article on the subject mentions a medieval perconation mark, which may be what Umberto Eco had in mind.

: the English equivalent of chronophage, correctly formed, would be "chronophagous," not "chronophageous." Which is probably why there is not an English equivalent of chronophage.

I can only ever think of this word as being something viral, with effects like the Weeping Angels in the Doctor Who episode, Blink). Perhaps that's how the universe ends, chronophageous weeping angels consuming the universe back to the beginning. After all, God made the angels, no?

(This actually came from a bad experience, so this is an attempt to steal it back into good use)

Marc does seem a little more French sounding than Mark. Of course that's said with a great deal of ignorance about French and how it sounds. The closest I've come is seeing the Cajun Kitchen on TV.
