It works fine with my 2GB NON-SD card, so I'll stick with that.

What do you mean by NON-SD card? The Kobo Touch has a microSD slot and should support any microSD card (I know this is not quite true yet) and none of the normal size SD card or any other type...

Sorry I meant to type NON- SHDC microsd card.
It seems to me the lower capacity cards (usually 2GB or lower) are not SDHC, the greater capacity cards are usually SDHC.
For some reason the KT doesn't play well with SDHC cards. Or at least that seems how it is to me.

Another week with the .16 version of firmware and i can report that the
sdhc card issue is in some ways worse now.

kobo appears to have tried to do a fix to the problem by allowing more time
to the reader to re-mount the SDHC card if it loses connection. i.e the problem
has not gone away but , through inserting more checks at different stages and
code to allow the reader to re-mount the problem has gotten a sort of band-aid.

That fix, however, has cause a new problem that kobo probably failed to test before releasing the software. if the reader has a lot of files on the card , the re-mount procedure takes considerable time. The result of this is that the internal watchdog? times-out and causes the unit to reset and restart.

Right now, after loading some more pdf on to the sd card(perhaps a little less than 1000 files and 3gb), i am in the situation that 70% of the page turns causes a reset of the unit.
this did not happen before...will remove some material to see if the problem disappers.

problem above did not happen with a 2gb sd class 2 card but with a 8gb sdhc class 6 card. (that have been formeted as suggested)

clarification: at page turn the unit: tries to turn page, fails due to card not mounted, re-mounts, start "spinning the wheel", and then stops the spinning and restarts.

I have he same issue you describe with that version of the firmware. I just hope Kobo Devs are working on this rather than ignoring it...or treating it as a solved issue.

I have to reinforce the problems that watr is having with his SD card. The last stable software release that allowed me to use an SD card was 1.9.10. Since then, every release has had issues, and the latest release is the worst one of all. Not only can I not read a book that is loaded on the SD card, I can't even have the card inserted.

If I insert the SD card, the home screen display changes completely, and shows books from both main memory and the card. If I start browsing the Library list, part way through, the Touch seems to (softly) eject the card, and the display now shows only the books loaded into man memory. However, after a few seconds, the list shows all books once again. If I can actually manage to start reading a book from the SD card, it usually reverts to the home screen, or totally hangs the Touch, after one or two page turns. I have even seen really strange behaviour, such as page overlays such that parts of two pages are visible simultaneously.

In short, with 1.9.16, and an SD card inserted, the KT is unusable. This is a serious bug, and needs to be fixed ASAP.

I use a Patriot Class 10 16GB SDHC card that I bought specifically for the KT. Since the KT is advertised as being capable of using up to a 32GB card, I see no reason why a 16GB card shouldn't just work. I have reset my KT so many times I have lost count, I have had to move most of my library to main memory, and I can't insert the SD card in order to have anything approaching stable operation.

What I see happening here is similar to the Microsoft Office experience - with every release, new features are added, but the old bugs aren't fixed. In the case of the KT, we see (supposedly) faster page turns, better font rendering, new widgets, and so on. But... we still can't use an SD card, yet this was supposed to have been fixed at least a half-dozen releases ago. Is there any chance of a solution in sight, or are we just going to get a bunch of "wonderful" new features in the next release?

Sorry to see some people still seeing problems with their SD card operation. We take SD card support very seriously and want to make sure you are happy with the performance you are seeing from the device.

I'd like to try and get problematic SD cards or the content you have on them if you are willing to share it. If interested in helping by providing either of these things, please contact me at shasan at kobo dot com, with subject line: SD Card Issue, asap please.
