installing upgrade on Imac

I am on 10.7.2 on an iMac. When I downloaded the latest update 8.33.it comes on my desktop as a dmg with a blank icon. As per directions I drag it to my applications folder but it remains as a dmg. I cannot drag into Calibre folder. What am I missing? How to get it to install. I have downloaded it twice..but get the same results. Thanks

pushy43 - thanks for posting this question. I just got a MacBook and still trying to get use to it including how to download files. I am running into the same issues. My Calibre 8.33 is opening as a .dmg as well. Will be very interested in an answer to this one as I am not sure of how to install the file appropriately. I keep Calibre on my Dock since I use the program constantly.

If you double-click on the DMG file it should open another Finder window containing the calibre app and a shortcut to the Applications folder. In that window you drag calibre to Applications.

Note, when you double-click on the DMG file, you'll end up with a new icon on your Desktop (and in Finder where it lists your drives) that looks like another drive. Once you've finished installing the program as above you can delete (it'll say "Eject") this by dragging it to the recycle bin or by right-clicking and picking "Eject".

When I double click on the icon which is blank and is a dmg it opens up disk utility. The icon is still blank. I was told by Mac people not to open it through disk utility. Any suggestions? Thanks

Right-click on the DMG file and use "Open with..." to open it with DiskImageMounter.app (this is normally the default, but it appears yours may have been changed?). Then proceed as per post #3 above.

Thanks! I just realized that the step I missed was to click on the icon in Disk Utility and it did just as you said. I am now upgraded.
