A novel, as in, fiction or non-fiction, nope. But I have a few books about PHP, C and Objective-C that just don't work as well in a digital format than as in a paper format.

I like to collect things. So, yes. I may buy a physical book sometime in the future but it will probably be hard cover, not paper back. And it will probably be for an entire series. (for example, I have the first three books from the Inheritance Cycle, so I need to buy the last one to complete my collection even though I have them all in eBook format)

I agree.
I don't see it as being either all ebooks or all physical books. As others have pointed out some non-fiction books just do not work as ebooks. But in terms of novels, yes, I continue to buy them. Not all novels have an ebook version. I am reading a series now that does not have an ebook version. And I am into the tactile aspect of a paper book. Plus I don't have to worry about battery life or a device's longevity. As long as I have a light source, even if just candlelight--which at times I have been reduced to--I can read. Plus, and this might sound weird, it seems as if I better retain the content of a paper book. Has anyone else experienced this? |

I "buy" traditional hard novels all the time with my tax dollars when I consider my local library. I can get some e-books through them but when I want something that is not e-book I am more than glad to go and read the hard copy they have.

I'm not going to pay more than $5 or so for an ebook. Mostly I get them free from the library. If the ebook is around $9.99 (and not available at my library) and the paperback is around $11.00, I will buy the paperback. I have to really want to read that book, though, since I have so many books on my wishlist at the library.

Yes, but not often, for books not yet in e-book form. Mostly out-of-print, not yet public domain, science fiction. For example, I just bought James Blish's "Cities in Flight." It was the last trade paperback of it available at Amazon, shortly after a discussion of the book here at Mobileread. Hmmmm. I'll be reading it when flying to/from Korea during all those take-offs and landings when I can't access my Kindle.
Paperbacks are also good for leaving on planes when one is done. No need to lug the thing around after reading it. I am much more comfortable reading on my kindle than any physical book. I can read with only needing to access the kindle for page turns. No need to forcefully hold it open (mass market paperback) or propping it open (hardcover). |

Of course I will. Ebooks and paperbooks are not mutually exclusive for me by any means.

I still buy physical books. What if the zombie apocalypse comes? Or an electromagnetic pulse that wipes out electronics??

I really wish I could still read paper books. There are lots of great books that aren't available as ebooks and may never be. Plus, you can still get used paperbacks for next to nothing. Last edited by carld; 01-02-2012 at 05:19 PM. |

I still by paperbacks, as well as still supporting the author (which the eBook would as well) it supports the small local bookshop I've been buying from for 10-15 years. Until the big American based chains moved in this place was the only one locally I could buy the books I liked to read, and their prices were very good. Good customer service and prices = loyalty. Looking into the future I'll probably by fewer paperbacks as the space required to store them becomes an issue.
Mind you this is different to my attitude with any of the photography equipment I buy, mostly because of the price difference on the photography gear in the small stores to the price I can get online. |

It has been over a year since I purchased a DTB, i have already been able to get rid of one bookcase. We are the ones who have to move in the "digital" direction", and seeing how children, teenagers and older people (I am one) are taking to readers, we may see it sooner rather than later.
