A feature I find very useful is a screenshot utility. All desktop systems have this, and much of the eeeuser.com wiki (for example) is based on screenshots with relatively little text. Of the current EInk readers, only the Kindle has a comparable key-press screenshot capability - although the iLiad has a time-delayed shot capability via a shell utility which is much better than nothing.

Great timing! Just when I was about to click the order button for the Cybook!

Now what will I do? You sparked my interest with the folder support. I'm also assuming that it will support Mobipocket and PDF files.

This summer?

Finally! Geesh, it gets me how most dedicated readers lack this most basic feature.

Thumbs up good to hear

Dear Hadrien,

even though I just placed an order for a BeBook (to replace the stylish yet highly imperfect Cybook which I bought after *ahem* losing my Iliad), I will definitely have an eye on your device.

Your feedbooks service is great and you seem to really care about the actual readers instead of just thinking about profits. So I am expecting great things to come!

I hope you will get support for chinese RSS / Newspapers working soon!
Wait - maybe it already works for .mobi files. Will go check that immediately.
...
Oh, still only pdf formating for news ... yet?

Cheers,

jo.

Ooops, I was reading about Astak's release in summer and I've mixed things. Sometimes happens when reading multithreads at the same time.

This will be very interesting. More competition means lower price; hope one day, I can buy a reader for 200 USD.

right, or that, of course...

i just took the time to watch the 30 minute video interview with Loïc Roussel (the other co-founder of feedbooks ). they mostly talked about feedbooks itself, how it works, what the plans are for the future, how it will evolve, the business model... which was quite interesting as well but not so relevant to this thread.

salient points about the feedbooks liseuse (other than those Hadrien has already mentioned) :

- for the moment, since they are still finalising negotiations, they can't communicate much on the price or the name of the retailer which will sell it to start with, but it will be relatively inexpensive.

- it will be released as a bundle with feedbooks content already loaded, and also with applications for connexting to the site to download RSS feeds etc. ; the device will have some kind of 3G connectivity, and enough internal memory to contain hundreds of books (the amount of internal memory has not been completely decided yet).

- it will definitely fully support epub.

on a not-necessarily-related-but-still-interesting note, Loïc also mentioned that he considers 2008 the year when everyone finally starts beleiving in e-paper and becomig actively involved, and probably 2010 will be the year when e-paper becomes truly mass-market (really not far away).

i am counting the days until september and september is my birthday ; i think i know what my best present will be...

I thought they initially said they are coming out with the reader "Next" year... which I took to mean 2009. Are you sure they are talking about Sept 2008?

Oh if only Amazon and Sony could have hired these guys when they designed their products and webstores. I look forward to this. My wife is slowly becoming very intrigued in my Reader. If they weren't so expensive I would get one for her today. Maybe this device won't be as bad in terms of cost.

well, he did specifically mention they were trying to keep the cost reasonable, in the interview. however 1. he couldn't yet be more specific, so "reasonable" could mean anything, and 2. i don't know how international sales would work, at first. i'm sure Hadrien will let us know more details, as soon as he can, if he can take a break from working on feedbooks...
