are you ever going to buy a paper novel again?

Now I have more than 4000 English novels in electronic format, which is going to last me for the rest of my life (if I read one novel a week, it will take me 80 years to read them all). I don't think I will ever need to spend another dollar on novel again.

Depends. If the ebook price is way more than the paperback. Im getting the paperback. I am assuming that the 4000 books you have are mostly Public domains or giveaways..correct? I doubt you will just limit yourself to those books or ever read them all. Something new will strike your fancy and you will buy it in electric format or paper.

It's possible. After purchasing my first ereader a couple of years ago I went back to paper books almost exclusively for about a year. Now I'm back with ereaders almost entirely and I can't see myself going back. It depends on how much I want the book and how much the author and/or publisher doesn't want it available as an ebook. |

I don't see the reason to ever go back to paperback, it's expensive to purchase, it takes spaces to store, it's not as portable, no tap to dictionary function, no change font size (no reading class required).

There are a few authors or series I will read, e.g. Terry Pratchett. And will buy in paper either because the ebook is twice as expensive or because I want to add it to my library with the other treestacks.

In the nearly three years since I purchased my first ereader I have bought very few paper novels for myself. About half a dozen, and all second hand. I have bought paper novels for gifts to others, but that list of people gets shorter and shorter as more of them get ereaders. My niece was saving up to buy a kindle this fall when my mother gifted her one for her 10th birthday. I sent her an Amazon gift card so she could start filling it up!

I am in the same position though. I have a lot of e-books that I have obtained for free, that the rush to go out and own a book would have to be if it is very special (and I let library loans determine that) and I can afford it, either e or dtb.

Expensive to purchase? Most ebooks are roughly the same price, with some being more expensive, than the paper copies. Unless you're pirating, how can you say that the paper versions are expensive?

Yes, probably, but not necessarily to read. I recently bought the 13th Dresden Files in hardcover so I'd have it on my shelf. I have all of them in e-format and I wanted just one for my shelf. And that's the one that happened to be on sale at B&N while I was there, so that's the one I got.

As for me, I bought 4 paper novels at the used bookshop 2 days ago and will no doubt be buying more.

Novels? Only if written by a friend. But I will locate and buy the Penhaligon's scented poetry collections I have missed to fill out my collection. I will also get the new ones if they make more. |
