That's close enough to free that you're forgiven.

Although if you'd had it on your wish list, there'd be nothing to forgive!

Forgive me all, for I have sinned....

I had about 50 books in the TBR on my Kindle and was Absolutely Positively Not going to by any more until I whittled the stack down. Then Open Road put all their Barbara Hambly stuff on sale ( 17 books ), and the Diane Duane put the Young Wizards series on sale ( 9 more books ), and Bad Evil Amazon keeps putting cool new things in the Deal of the Day.... Currently at about 80 in the TBR.

Sigh. On the bright side, I now have the lighted cover, and as long as I remember to keep the Kindle charged, I can read in the mornings when I walk the dog ( ziplock baggies for rainy days ) and at night. Still haven't figured out how to handle dark + rain. And yes, I do apologize to trees and lightpoles, but I'm getting the hang of keeping the Kindle at just the right angle so that the sidewalk edge is illuminated and have detailed a small fraction of brain to making sure that I don't walk off the sidewalk.

I just added a read column to calibre, and I am at shocked how many unread books I have. Both freebies and purchases. I guess I am not buying anymore e-books for awhile. It should get easier after Feb since my CC expires then.

I promise, not to buy more than 400% more books than I could possibly read in one or two lifetime! But methinks I am already dooomed!

Awesome! That may be the cure for my recently developed EBAS.* My own local public library has a rapidly growing ebook selection, but they are still missing some of the authors I'd like to read. Many of them seem to be available at Singapore.

I already checked out 4 books and put 50 more on a wish list. (I expect 50 books would take me a year or more to read).

Of course, I already bought a stack of books for my new reader, but I really and truly believe that finding these libraries will save me from sliding further down the slippery slope of EBAS.

My wallet thanks you most sincerely.

On the eve of 2011, I decided to buy another book. Isn't it awesome when you think of a book you'd like to read and you can actually find that book available in multiple formats?

But the DRM-infection still stops me from buying more than one at the time, as my Adobe thingie simply refuses to stay activated... (could have something to do with it being situated in a virtual machine...)

No such problems here (even when I switch hosts). I'm using Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 with XP SP3 guest. I also have the complete set of vacuuming tools installed on the virtual machine to quickly sanitize infections.

Weird, as I also use VPC2007... And yes, that's the advantage of such a machine, all kinds of decontamination tools at the ready

So, I apparently have 1,255 unread books on my Kindle; 60 of which I've purchased. This is after removing all of the freebies that were in the middle of series that I've not even started, and the 50 books from the Harvard Classics.

I know I will be purchasing a minimum of 10 more books, in order to read the complete Dresden Files series. Other 2012 purchases will most likely be for the Mobile Read book Club (In fact, I bought January's selection a few days ago).

Ah, we don't count freebies here. Only books that have been bought, even if only for $0.01.

It's beginning to look like I'll start 2012 with a TBR pile of 380 purchased ebooks.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!

I'd been very, very, good for several months, just concentrating on reducing the TBR list and correcting all the epubs I've made by format-shifting my old pbooks.

And then came a moment of weakness...3 titles from Amazon @ £0.99 each and a whole £4.49 for the latest Horatio Lyle from Waterstones. Does it help excuse me that the inner geek wanted to play at converting Kindle to epub?

Only two days into the new year and already I've slipped!

The question, as always, is this: Were these books on your wish list, or from a favourite author?

If they were, and were on sale at a good price, then the purchase is justifiable.

Waterstones purchase was a favourite author - I discovered the latest in a series and though "Got to have that". Amazon titles were (a) cheap and (b) not on wish list, not favourite author.

No excuses; fortunately I have plenty of ashes from the fire, sadly no sackcloth is to hand.

Yes, no excuses for the Amazon titles. Even wanting to practice DRM stripping and format conversion doesn't excuse you. There are plenty of free DRMed titles that you could have practised on, and you certainly didn't need to buy three!
