I'm not talking about DRM-protected LIT files, Jon (it's illegal to remove DRM in the UK). I use ConvertLIT as a way of getting decent Mobi versions of the older Baen books, which have very poor Mobi versions. Converting the LIT version of the books to Mobi gives excellent results. With their new releases, Baen do nice Mobi versions, but their older ones are rather poor.

Ok have downconverted the file and it is on my desktop. Don't understand what you mean by importing it to calibre - what is that. Thought it might be the ebook library but it won't import.

Eureka I've finally got it. Managed to download book to my sony reader at last. Many thanks for everyones advice - I would not have been able to do it without it. Here's hoping I won't need to bother you again!

Sweet. I guess you don't need me to answer your question in your previous message.

That's incorrect - my experience is that the GUI'd ReaderKeyRecoveryTool runs happily from the ConvertLIT GUI (File/"Run Reader key recovery tool"). No reason at all to go for the command line.

Is MS Reader activated to the same account you bought the lit file from?

noob question

I'm trying to get (DRM'd) Lit files in such a format that I can read them on my bebook. I used the Gui'd key extraction, and it says: open the book in MS reader. If I try to do that I get the message that the book has a new encryption and that I have to go back to the microsoft pages to re-activate my reader. If I do that the book shows up in MS reader again, with some kind of seal on the cover with my name on it. I noticed that this thread is from 2008. Did MS sharpen security in the mean time? I read all I could find on the convert lit method, in this forum, and the instructions that came with the convertlit software. I shy away from using the command thingy, but would it help if I used that, or is it something entirely different? I know that no instructions can be given here on the forum, but perhaps some kind, wise soul could PM me? Otherwise I'm stuck with a few books that will have to be read on the laptop. With a holiday coming up I'm determined to solve this so I can read them on my bebook. Tnx in advance.

Never mind, I finally found a way to get it working, although I don't know how. Hoping I can make it work again when I need it !
