New firmware erased ALL my bookmarks....

Beware before you update! It also re-added the "free" books. Alice in Wonderland, etc.

If you did not sync before this--or any other--update. Your bookmarks will NOT be on the server and thus will not sync.

I sync regularly, as I often buy books and need to get them onto the reader

I didn't lose any of my bookmarks with the update. Strange...

I did go the desktop app, sync without my reader attached and remove all of the previews and freebies that showed up with the new desktop app. I hate previews.

I have all my bookmarks and I updated over WiFi.

If my books are all sideloaded with Calibre, do I need to 'sync' first - or will those bookmarks be lost?

(First post - I'm unwrapping my new Kobo Touch in the morning!)

My sideloaded books are all on my SD card. Their bookmarks were fine. Syncing is only for kepubs.
