Hi there; just thought I'd mention I've been having bizarre internet connectivity issues too-- the reader keeps deciding it doesn't want to be connected to my wireless network anymore, then I tap a link, and it tries to reconnect a bunch of times, which means my router starts ignoring its requests.

I have yet to find a workaround on either end; and I also have no idea if that's specific to this firmware update.

ETA: though the ten minutes I had it and was playing around with it on A03.org and a couple of other places I acquire ePubs were far less painful than post-update. I'm still searching for a way to report the bug to Sony.

ETA2: I disabled WiFi standby and switched to a completely different access point and can actually use the WiFi. More exploration is needed to determine /which/ fixed it, but my end goal was to see if I can actually acquire non-DRM ePubs through the browser, so I'll either look into this tomorrow or I won't. If you want to try disabling your WiFi Standby mode and get back to me? I'd like to know which is actually the problem. (If it's my access point, I need to fix it before my mom shows up with her Nook and starts trying to connect.)

Yes, I noticed that on more than one T1. That's the reason why I returned mine. I can't live with that!

i have noticed the wifi issues, when you have standby enabled, the wifi doesn't work. but if you disable the standby turn of the unit and turn it back on and just enable wifi when you need it, you dont get any issues. also is anyone else getting letters on the page that appear to be very bold and almost 3d? or is that just me. last but not least i thought my eyes were playing up at first but yea ghosting seems very random at times. maybe i should return and exchange?

I've updated mine, and it works very well (brand new, so put it on the update before really using it). I noticed the double page flip sometimes when using the buttons though. I've seen it mentioned here, is it 'fixable', or are we waiting for a new update?

Thanks,

d

Just getting around to updating my T1 firmware. It appears that there is two ways of doing it, via Reader for PC/Help/Check for updates, or download PRS-T1_update_1.0.03.11140.exe file. Which method should this old fellow use please?.

Just got my T1, and just updated yesterday, I used the exe method since I am not using Sony Reader software. I just followed the instruction on the Sony FW dl site and everything went smoothly. I also followed the advise to have my T1 fully charged before updating, to be on the safe side.

Thanks nnyy, It looks to be easier via the Sony Reader and I presume it works as well. I am always a bit scared of any firmware updates and the likely results.

I also used the exe, and it was really easy, quick, and very painless. I don't want to use the Sony software, as the previous one was... pretty painful. Calibre makes it so much better. Good luck Nicko!

If you plan to use the Sony software to manage your books there probably isn't any harm of doing the firmware update that way as well. If you don't (or you're using Linux) you're better of using the .exe because Reader for Pc is pretty meh.

Have you noticed you can eliminate the ghosting (I might be wrong but I assume you refer to the white remains on screen from the text of the previous page or a recently opened menu) by holding the next page button slightly longer when switching page? It will cause a stronger refresh and the ghosting will be gone. I use this all the time when it becomes distracting. At least every third page turn or so.

DirkGently, I know what you mean, I'm not referring to that, I think that is a side-effect of how e-Ink 'refreshes' the page, and gladly suffer this for the many advantages of e-Ink (battery life, resolution, clarity, etc.). This seems to be more of a random 'region' issue, where a rough oval or circular part of the screen will 'appear' lighter than the rest. It almost looks like the font-letter thickness in that region is thinner than anywhere else on the screen. If you focus on it, it disappears, but if you sit back and look at the screen as a whole, it looks like a ghosted patch on the screen. Might just be the way words composed of thinner letters align on the page, but i doubt it.

Anyhow, it's not a major issue, just not something I ever noticed on a PRS-505 that I used for 4 years, and something I've noticed on 3 distinct units of the T1 (within a month)

I haven't had any problems with either my reader or the firmware update. I use Sony's software, when I connected my reader, it saw the update, told me to wait while it did its thing, synched all my books and I've been reading ever since.

I haven't noticed any ghosting whatsoever, this has been a terrific upgrade over my 600!

Can't be. Completely different system. T1 is android-based; I believe all earlier Readers are custom Sony interfaces built on Linux.
