I did not know that, thank you. I've been SO tempted, because I want the bigger screen... but I really cannot express how much I hate the Kindle keyboards. I was hoping so much they'd make a Touch DX, but it doesn't seem like they plan to. *off to look at w00t* ETA: And, of course, I keep forgetting that Kindles don't read ePUBs. I really would prefer to NOT double the size of my Calibre library (and therefore my Dropbox) just so I can have mobi versions of everything. *sigh* *DEEPER sigh* |

I actually tried sticking a 10” Xoom and an 8” Visio in the same packet that I always carry my SGT in, and guess what. They didn’t fit! It’s great to be vindicated!

I liked my 7" Nook Color with CM7 better than the 10" ipad (or my new 10.1" Toshiba Thrive). I upgraded to the Thrive for the speed improvement, full USB/HDMI/SDXC and other perks. Not because I loved the bigger size. I miss my 7" NC somewhat, it was so much more portable / lightweight. |

Read the article. Orders for 9.7-inch displays are down, possibly because Apple has a new iPad in the wings and has therefore reduced the number of screens they're buying.

Didn't Steve Jobs say that a 7" tablet wouldn't work because it's just too small?

And yes it's interesting and I even agree with the premise, but the reasoning is SIMPLY WRONG. The popularity of 7" devices has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH APPLE. Here's what the article actually says: Headline: Kindle Fire, Nook driving 7-inch display demand Shipments of 7-inch display panels in November grew about 17 percent month on month, surpassing shipments of 9.7-inch displays, according to a report in Taipei-based Digitimes. saying straight-out that 7" tablets are more in demand than 9.7" tablets. it further says: Part of the falloff in demand for the 9.7-inch panel is due to Apple. There was some letup in the purchase of displays for the current iPad as Apple gets ready to launch the next-generation iPad, according to Digitimes. So it says PART of the reduction in 9.7 is cause Apple is selling fewer tablets while 7" Android tablets are selling like hotcakes. Then it makes some assumption that has something to do with some new apple product which it total assumption without facts to back it up. Apple has also said it won't build a 7" tablet so then next iPad is likely to be the same size so orders for new and improved 9.7" screens should be UP.....hmmm..... End of story. Please move alone, this is not the 7" device you seek. Last edited by kennyc; 12-22-2011 at 01:17 PM.

Nice way to insult someone for no reason whatsoever. Thanks a lot for that. Again, The article didn't say that the popularity of 7-inch devices had anything to do with Apple. It said that part of the reason that shipment of 7-inch displays surpassed 9.7-inch displays is that Apple has slowed down their purchases of the larger displays. I don't understand why you're making such a pointless fuss over what's clear and simple logic. Regardless, you're going permanently on ignore. Bye Bye.

What's more interesting than whether this has anything to do with Apple is what Apple's response might be. Will it: 1. Come out with its own 7" model- the mini Ipad? 2. Will it shave $10-20 off the price of its entry in the sub-10" display device-the iPod touch? 3. Will it continue to sell the iPad2 after the iPad3 is introduced but at the $299 or 349 price point? Of course, if you are not an Appple person, this may not be interesting at all. . But a lot of folks are going to want to discuss these scenarios.

Yes, he said that 7" tablets would have to ship with sandpaper so your fingers would work on them. Makes you think what they are shipping with the iPods and iPhones, as they're only 3.5".
