thanks VR ! nice compilation. i've often thought that there are several threads i would like to archive... but i haven't done it so far, partly because most of them are still active (that's my excuse... pathetic isn't it). the absurdist ramblings (and i mean that in the very best way, obviously

Thanks VR for including my humble bits.

MR Member Original Contributions: Updated Ebooks
To my earlier posted ebooks of MR member contributions, I have added the requested posts (squirrels, translations, etc.), did a bit of editing, retitled the ebooks, and have added the statement "This ebook may contain material copyrighted by MobileRead forum members. All rights reserved." I don't have the slightest clue if that's a useful and appropriate statement or not. I have deleted the files that I posted earlier. I hope I haven't caused any grief by putting these files together and posting them - it certainly wasn't my intention to. If any of you (or the moderators) have any uneasiness about this, just let me know and I can either delete portions of them or just delete the files altogether. If there are no issues but you would like other postings added to these files (I was considering adding avatars but, again, there may silly copyright issues with that), just let me know.

Hire Catherine Deneuve to play me, and tell her to remember her surrealist days with Bunuel.

Classic? Are you kidding? A mega-classic. Personally, I can't wait for the part when Catherine (playing the part of Patricia) steps from her stylish sports coupe and utters those soon-to-be-famous lines:
Bread. Milk. salad. Chickpeas. Collect dry cleaning. What drama! |

Patrick Stewart for me, without the British accent and with a mustache. No wait, wait... Bruce Willis, only WITH a British accent. No, that doesn't work. Hmmmm... ok, the guy who will only ever be known as "Goose" from Top Gun, since he's bald now. With a mustache. He's got the perfect mix of lonesome loser and "I'm awesome once you know me".
If none of the above are available, then the flying dog thing from the silly 80's movie version of Neverending Story. |

i vote for "the flying dog thing", because so far there's not nearly enough Dada in the casting. in that spirit, i propose that i could be played by a string of colored lights and / or a cardboard box. alternately, a hedgehog would be a good choice. of course, if Lauren Bacall ca. "The Big Sleep" is available, i'm not going to say no...
EDIT : or Capucine, ca. "The Pink Panther". if we're dreaming. (cleverly avoiding the exercise of "chinese portraits" involving actors, since i can never think of any off the top of my head, much less think of a likely candidate to play myself.) Directed by Peter Jackson, music by Michael Jackson and orchestra conducted by The Marx bros...
To be premiered in a dusty night-club near you, sometime in the past, the present, and the future; but definitely with a PG rating... Definitely an Oscar looming... |

A string of colored lights in some scenes and a cardboard box in others sounds great to me, ZP (hey, it's Dada). But for PH, the flying dog thing just won't do - too dorky and definitely not Dada. I was thinking of a box of tissues on a roller skate. Not sure why.

i think the film should be directed by the Marx Brothers, the music should be by Michel Gondry, and the orchestra should be directed by Peter Sellers.
Palme d'Or at Cannes, no question. |

The Marx Brothers as directors - perfect! But I'm fond of John Zorn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Zorn) to score the music. If you'd like to hear Dada written for a string quartet and performed brillianty then check out 'cat o' nine tails' here: http://www.jasperquartet.com/Media.html - I almost fell out of my chair in the performance I attended. It's something like listening to a montage of all the best scenes from a Tom and Jerry cartoon.
