Kindle Fire, Nook driving 7-inch display demand

Interesting development, there are now more 7-inch displays shipping than 9.7-inch displays. This may be because Apple is getting ready to launch a new iPad with a different size screen.

Has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with Apple, not sure why you'd even say that. The popularity is due to convenience, it's the sweet spot between portability and useability.

It's not only the Fire. Not sure which one was first, the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the B&N Nook Color (but the latter has never has been released outside the US) (and not counting all those cheap Chinese tablets). Which was around the time all tablet-hell broke lose. And suddenly all producers started to making 10" screens (give or take). But, somewhere this year, there was a change and more and more 7" tablets started to arrive. The HTC Flyer, the Acer Iconia A100, the Lenovo, RIM with the playbook, Samsung with a second model, and I've probably forgotten a few.

I think more and more people are finding that a 10" (give or take) is simply too large to take with you everywhere, where a 7" is a lot handier.

But that has nothing to do with Apple (maybe) launching a smaller sized device...

Though, I still that the 7" displays are simply overtaking because of a greater demand of 7" screens. And not because Apple wants 7" screens or even because only Amazon wants 7" screens.

I want a 9.7 eInk... Have been thinking about buying the Boox, but still put off my the sticker shock.

I've been using my NC as a tablet for, oh, awhile now, and I can't use it without wishing the screen was bigger. So for me at least I think I prefer the 9.7s.

The tablet world still does. Apple currently has around 60% of world-wide tablet market share: http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Desktops-an...-to-40-520452/

So yes, if they cut back production in anticipation of a new model or post-holiday sales, it's going to affect these kinds of figures.

totally agree, I borrowed an iPad for a day, and a 10" Android for a week. Fully expecting to buy one or the other.
They are big and cumbersome.

Unexpectedly, 7" did it for me.
