Personally slogging through Devices and Desires by P D James. Not a book to skim, the language and words are beautiful but not very condusive to a bumpy bus ride and flitting concentration.
Thanks! A few days ago,I finished the book (in one week) and can't wait for the movie, that opens tomorrow in theaters. My son started to read the paper book version. I'm so glad I found motivation here to keep reading. Did not want to miss such a great novel!

The Cobra by Frederick Forsyth...not a very gripping read, i have just read 30% so far. 1Q84 is the next one lined up...

I'm currently reading "The Ressurrection," a novel by John Gardner. (This is the literary/academic writer, not the genre writer.)

The 2nd and 3rd in the Dragon Tattoo series are just as good if not better than the first as they dont have the slow hard slog at the start its just straight in to the action

I thought about to continue with book 2 and 3 but decided to read Hungry Games first. I definitely will read the restofthe trilogy. Yeah, the first book was quite tough to get through the first 150 pages! But soooo worth it!

Finished The Scar this morning. I have a lot of thoughts. Mostly: "oh. My. God." What a brilliant book.

Read Looking for Alaska today too. It was okay. The language and writing in general was beautiful but I found the characters to be a bit of a turn-off (though the Colonel was pretty awesome). Not my favourite YA, but compared very favourably with The Disreputable History of Frankie-Landau Banks, which I truly loathed. This is a far superior (if also far from perfect) book on very, very similar themes.

Also found time to re-read Double Act and the Lottie Project out of nostalgia over the last couple of days. Thoughts are on my Goodreads (link in sig).

Now reading Snow Crash, about 80 pages in. So far, so weird.

I have just started "Anne of Green Gables" - one of those books I never read in my distant youth so when I found it on Girlebooks I decided to give it a go.

Which was an enjoyable collections of fantasy short stories. Perhaps a few most ghostly stories than I prefer, but good overall.

Next: Starburst by Frederik Pohl. The fifth from the bundle I bought in April. I was disappointed in the last one, Jem, which probably explains why it's taken me so long to get around to the next. Hopefully this one will be a lot better. First published in 1982.

Yay! Always happy to hear another fan of that book.

Loved this book too. I realise it gets a pretty mixed reaction, but I found it better than Diamond Age and a fantastic introduction to Stephenson for me.

The Hunger games is a great read too and it will be good to have it finished before the movie comes out in March

Ummmm. Guilty as charged. It's the fact that you keep referring to the series as The Hungry Games .

Mecha Corps by Brett Patton. i had to get it because i don't think theres much mech based military sci-fi out there these days. its nothing life changing so far but it scratches an itch.
