After Barnes and Noble updated the nook tablet yesterday it can no longer side load apps. So I'm just happy amazon didn't do that.

BTW, even though I think Amazon needs to add the ability to disappear the Carousel, and I think they need to address many of our complaints with the reading app, I'm still happy they are at least doing updates. B&N took forever to put out extremely lackluster updates on the NC. Apple rarely releases an update to address customer wishes--they are usually just to add features Apple wants.
Yes the Fire badly needs some firmware tweaks, but it is way ahead of the other tablets when it comes to reading. So much so that I sold my iPod touch 4G and my iPad over the weekend. (I'm now almost iOS free. I kept an older iPod touch 2G to run a Satellite tracking app that beats anything available for Android.) |

>>>I just read on the Amazon discussion board that you can select the download link >>>(https://s3.amazonaws.com/kindle-fire...1E_3103920.bin) from within the Silk >>>Browser on your Fire and it will download to the appropriate folder and allow you >>>install / update the Fire. No sideloading required.
No this is untrue. I tried this route and it downloads the file to the download folder, the correct folder is \kindleupdates (I think I have that directory right. I moved the file to kindleupdates and did the update but for some reason that did not work either. I just downloaded it to my computer and from there downloaded to my kindle to the kindleupdates folder and then did the update. Works great. |

Most likely because they have it in all their commercials and use it to show off the "coverflow" feature for those that want to compare it to an iPad/iPod from Apple to say "yes ours does coverflow too", in a way....
![]() for AZ its a "selling point" until the user finds out how annoying it is Quote:

Hmmm. I'm pretty happy with the update, but then I wasn't terribly unhappy before. BTW' I agree that list view isn't new. I've been using it for a while...

Just bought my new fire so this is not really a concern right now but I will no doubt need to know this for the future:
1) What web page do I go to find out the version number of the lates firmware? 2) Where do I look on thefire to see what version I have? 3) Can I manually initate an update if its needed? 4) If so how? Mt Kindle three does this automatically for me so no doubt the fire will do likewise. |
