PRS-T1 T1 screen compared to Kindle Touch

I don't have the touch version but I do have the $79 Kindle 4, and I do agree that the lettering on the T1 is less consistent than the Kindle 4. I notice it too when jumping back and forth, but all together I greatly prefer the T1.

I had seen it. But I don't find the "plenty of" people complaint because the T1 has a better screen. If you take a look at it, you are going to find out that the one who brought up the T1 screen, was a Sony only owner. Besides, they are not talking about the Kindle Touch, but the Kindle non-touch and there are people complaining as much as there are people saying that the Kindle NT screen is better than the K3's.

I have not had time to look through this thread - so frankly I am not sure this is the one I was referring to. I will try to dig some more - but I remember clearly some thread in which the consensus seemed to be that T1 had a better screen.

But the comparison was, as above, with the Kindle Touch - sorry if that doesn't apply.

But don't get me wrong - as I said in my previous thread, I don't think there are differences across models and manufacturers. There are big differences across units of the same model&manufacturer. I think it's all noise - I just wanted to point out that people looking at individual units clearly disagree on which model/manufacturer has better screens.

Yes I know that. I was referring to the PRSPlus feature which lets you setup your personal 'best settings' once (+50/-50 for me) and apply them to any book with a single button-click rather than fiddling around with the 2 sliders.

wow, the background of the screen of the T1 pictured looks so much brighter than mine. of course, i'd like to compare that screen to the one i had, but that's impossible.

so i went to the sony retail store to compare the T1 i had to the ones that they had on display - all looked identical, which is to say bad. i had them pull a new one out of the box and it was the same story. i returned the T1.

oh well, maybe the next model will be better

I am in the same boat as you. I have both the KT & the T1 and still undecided which one to return. I have compared the two, one next to the other, and my eyes can confirm that your picture is nothing but the true.

IMO, T1 is the better device overall (lighter, prettier, faster) but sadly it has the inferior screen.

Even when I like the T1 much more, I will probably keep the no epub support, slower, heavier, uglier KT.

Congrats on your picture, perhaps you should send it to Sony.

I also feel that Kindle has better contrast than Sony.

Yet after finding that I can change font to my own liking with T1, I feel that they come close to each other and like T1 better and better.

Perhaps you may try different fonts before returning your T1 to Sony.

lkkmaths, I would like to try that before returning the Sony. How do you install additional fonts on the T1? I'd try the Caecilia first.

bentonquest, I just follow the instructions described in the forum - using Calibre to convert epub and adding extra-CSS in feel and look. When I install bolder fonts, the screen looks much more comfortable. To me, Adobe Garamond Semibold and Avant Garde Medium nice for regular fonts.

Sorry, I'm a little puzzled. Are you converting an epub to mobi, adding the extra css to embed the font in the resulting mobi? I thought mobi format doesn't support embeded fonts . And also, do you have to install the additional fonts on the Kindle first?

You are correct; the Mobi file format does not support embedded fonts.
