The only troubble with a sony reader is that they cost so darn much. I have spoken to many sony reader owners and thats the one gripe of theirs.

The Sony PRS-T1 is the same price in the US as the Kindle Touch: $99.

It's cheaper if we take into account that the Kindle Touch no-adds cost $139 and the T1 doesn't have adds.

If the ads bother you, that's true. I have to confess that I don't even notice them myself.

They also have a $50 trade in credit available. $49 to upgrade my Nook Touch is tempting.

Can you see the new Sony hands on before buying? There's a post in the Sony forum showing the new Sony and Kindle side-by-side and the Kindle has a significantly better screen. There's some discussion of whether it's lighting, or fonts or actual screen quality, but the Kindle definitely looks clearer.

I'd buy a T1 in a heartbeat if I had the extra. I know it has some issues but for $99 I be willing to take a change of Sony fixing it sometime. It's a really nice reader!

This is certainly not my experience. The T1 screen is brighter than the K4/Kindle Touch (I'm a K4 and T1 user). I would go to Mobiletechreview.com and look at Lisa's review of the T1. This can help you make up your mind. I respect this board, but a lot of the opinions rendered are based on things people have read and not personally experienced.

There is only one source of eInk screens, and all manufacturers use them. All people are seeing is the variation between individual eInk panels, which can be considerable, but it's nothing to do with the brand of the reader.

Which is why I was suggesting checking out the T1 in person before making a choice, and was just offering up another data point to take into consideration. I don't personally have any interest in Sony's ereaders, or anything against them.

I got a new Kindle Touch and the screen is darker then my last December's Kindle DX Graphite. My old classic 1st Generation nook has a whiter screen than any of the others. If only I could stand the rest of the nook and all of its problems, I would keep it.

Nothing but most people have Kindles, Nooks, or Kobos. I don't know of ANY stores that sell the Sony Readers anymore. When I had a Sony Reader, while the hardware was great, their ebook store was horrible (bugs and a horrible selection of books). I'm just surprised that they don't just give up and stick to Stereos, Playstation and TVs.

T1 is available locally in most store like Best Buy, Walmart and I believe Target. The T1 runs off of Android unlike other eInk Readers that run off Linux I highly recommend watching Lisa's Mobiletech review of the T1. If Sony gets it stable it's an amazing eReader. I want one bad!

I've never seen one at Target, Walmart, Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, etc. (I rarely go to BestBuy). I've not even heard much on the web about Sony ereaders anymore... it's like no one cares.

Walmart does carry them. Target Also sells them. How many they keep in stock varies. Black Friday they were selling big time but now they are $99 I imagine they will go faster the T1 is amazing. You can download library book directly, it has WiFi and other features that for the price off $99 it makes it a great deal! It has really good contrast too.

When the T1 was released it was all over the News and blogs.
