You could be right, but I disagree. A new hardware version, even with minor tweaks, would require weeks (at least 2-3) of testing to make sure there are no regressions. Agreed. The different numbers are more likely some kind of date code or manufacturing plant code, or perhaps major parts code (but I think this unlikely) unless it's associated with the display which is probably the most expensive part.

I agree. I don't think 3 weeks is long enough to have a new version tested either. I think sirmaru likely just had a bunk fire initially.

I've worked for one of the big electronics companies near Seattle (no not Amazon) and small revisions shortly after launch are fairly commonplace in the industry.

Also remember that if they started doing a mass production run, spotted some issue with a small number of units and re-tooled based off of that they could have produced enough units to cover a few weeks of shipping, then slipped in the newer revision.

I'm not saying this is the case, but I am saying I have seen this happen more than a few times in my years in the tech industry.

Mine dims before going to sleep. Not when I put it to sleep, mind you, but when it goes to sleep after a period of inactivity.

I have also worked (and still do) in the tech industry, and I see your point, though in my experience this is more the kind of thing that happens further down the road. Most usually, the manufacturer replaces certain components to bring down the cost of the device, while maintaining the same functionality from a user perspective (for instance, replace the CPU with a per-pin identical one, but with a different and cheaper silicon process), or change the RAM/EMMC supplier, and so on. But, in my experience, this happens months after the initial launch. But there could certainly be cases as the one you describe.

Nope. Just checked again and it just dims as it is shutting down. Nothing before hand. I have mine set to go off at 5 minutes. That was the default that was set on it. I'm on software 6.2.

Weird. Mine definitely does. It did it just a few minutes ago as a matter of fact, when I stopped what I was doing to answer the phone.

My test of any differences side-by-side will have to wait until tomorrow it seems. UPS delayed delivery by a day. I should have some information up by tomorrow.

Strange indeed. I wonder if when it updates if it will change. Will keep checking. So yours dims for about 30 seconds before it goes to sleep?

If you are on the "lock screen" it just goes off, but on any other -- carousel/menu or in an application it dims before sleeping.

I wonder if there are different software versions at work here? There was an update the week after release, maybe some didn't get i?
