				Looking for books about assassins

i've recently become obsessed with the Assassin's Creed series of games so naturally i'm inclined to seek books like the game.

i know there's several game novelizations but i'm curious if there are any other books about assassins or templar knights out there, preferably in a fantasy or fictional medieval history context. thanks. |

Perhaps Robin Hobb's "Farseer" trilogy, starting with "Assassin's Apprentice?"

I only question it because for action I'd put Barry Eisler's contemporary John Rain series ahead of it. But it isn't a medieval fantasy as much as Hobb's work is. Some people complain the Farseer books are too slow. To me she sets a mood and builds a world well. |

The early books in Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos series. The main character is a practicing assassin in a Renaissance-ish mostly-fantasy* swashbuckling world, and most of his adventures involve going up against other assassins**.

	* Okay, they're actually leftover space alien experiments, but they don't talk about that much. **And the occasional evil sorceror. And space alien. And having lovingly described gourmet meals. |

I've started The Eiger Sanction by Trevanian which was a best seller ca. 1973. It's modern, though, not historical.

He also wrote The Loo Sanction. The Ninth Directive by Adam Hall is a terrific book I read a year ago about stopping an assassin in modern Thailand. |

I would actually listen to the Assassin Creed game soundtrack when I read the Night Angel books. They are very good.
