Through December 14th, people in the US can upgrade existing FineReader versions to FR 11 for $70 at the Abbyy website (Retail version is $118 until 12/14). The Newegg deal is only good today.

Does the Mac version of FineReader work with the VuPoint Magic Wand II portable scanner? Unfortunately the scanner itself only came with the Windows version. |

Abbyy does not supply any drivers with Finereader for the Mac, so that's all in the hands of either OS X or VuPoint.

The scanner box says it's Plug and Play for Mac, no drivers required. I'm just wondering if, once I scan something, I can use the Mac Finereader software. Thanks! |

I talked to both Abbyy and VuPoint, and they seem to think the the scanner and the software will work for my Mac, so I will download the trial version and report back on the results. |

Abby for Mac works with Magic Wand scans for sure... The latter are just jpg files (processing the MW scans with Scantailor before OCR'ing them can substantially increase OCR accuracy) Note: As you said, Abby for Mac is not the one included in the CD that comes with the MW scanner.
