Great Case for T1 - Mountain Equipment Co-op's Doc Holder
hey folks,
I spent quite a while today comparing cases in Ottawa, ON. The official Sony cases start at $40, and Chapters had Kobo cases on for $20 - The Kobo ones were nice but were a little too snug for my tastes - it was really hard to get the T1 OUT of the case. I had this document holder (passport holder) case from Mountain Equipment Co-op (Americans: think REI) and it's $11.50. It doesn't hold the reader in place but it's a good, padded, secure case and also has a little loop for the stylus in the middle. I recommend it if you're looking for a transport case - good quality and great reputation. http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Member...sp?bmLocale=en |

If the T1 with a cover doesn't fit, then don't bother.

You can buy better covers than the official Sony ones for half the cost though.

A standard cover from Gecko for the T1 is around the 20 euro mark with free postage. The Luxe cover is 25 euros with free postage. Personally, I believe the Gecko covers are better. A work colleague has a PRS-350 with lighted Sony cover and it is of far better quality than the Sony T1 covers. |

What the point is (IMHO) is that you should have a cover for the T1. A sleeve is OK as long as it fits the T1 while the T1 is in the cover. Otherwise, the sleeve is useless. What was linked was not a proper cover but more of a case. I have no idea if it would fit while the T1 was in a cover. If not, that case is useless as you'd have to use the T1 naked while not covered. That's not good.

I was quite explicit I hadn't found a suitable case, and indeed had found a suitable case-like document holder that DOES fit.
I own it; it works perfectly for my needs. The reviews of it even include travellers who use it for their e-reader (aka T1) and their passport, just like I'm going to do. Plus, the price fits a $95 reader - an $11.50 case. Last edited by kyall; 12-12-2011 at 10:24 AM. |

![]() Some may want a case/cover purely for looks, or just for the convenience of transportation. For me, I just want one to prevent scratches and dirt. Do I ever worry that the reader may fall out of my hand while reading it? Not really. Some actually PREFER to use it "naked" as this is the only way to ensure the thinnest and lightest reader in your hands, something the engineers strove very hard to do. For YOUR purpose, it's not good. But for someone looking for a case for transportation and carrying, this is a perfect case which is reasonably priced. I actually prefer the Sony's polyurethane cover to leather ones. |

I've read stories on MR of a reader screen getting damaged in a sleeve where the top of the sleeve wasn't able to be closed and the reader was dropped and it hit the edge of the reader and the screen broke. And if you take your reader on the go, you have to deal with getting it out of the case and then put away the case to read and you don't know if the ground under you is going to be soft or hard or what. So if you drop it, you could end up with no reader.

Agreed, although I hate the idea of paying $40 for the Sony cover, it complements the reader perfectly, allows fold-back of the cover to read one-handed, provides a good grippy back surface, and looks the best (imho). It's good to have personal preference, and that's mine ;o)

Indeed I have to figure out my personal taste first before I decide which cover to buy... I guess I will wait couple of weeks after I receive my ebook.
