Hey -- Zelda's got a pen just like Taylor described ..... cept her's is gold, far as I can tell. It looks like a nice kind.
I just ordered 2 dozen Pilot fineline gel pens, to go with my new (empty) journal book. You're right --- the right writing implement matters. |

Mike Rhode has all kinds of neat info about moleskines and why he uses them. Plus amazing sketches on them. Mike's the only reason I found any interest in them. And I guess the actual pen used does make a big difference because a lot of people are really into the choice of pens.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...es&btnG=Search He's quite an artist, and if my memory serves, he does web design for sites like Mobile Opportunity and Palm Addict and others. |

I love his idea for a digital Moleskine, Bob. I'd like one, of course, with an e-ink display.
There are loads of websites where people show off their notebooks, mostly of their artwork. I enjoy looking but I also find it a bit intimidating to see so many talented people out there while I, by comparison, just scribble junk in mine. The point is, there's no need to make comparisons, public or otherwise. Just know that you'll enjoy writing and drawing and recording your ideas, clippings, etc. and go for it. oh my, i is drooling now... it would be so brilliant to be able to make notes and sketches for a project and then import them directly to illustrator, without needing to scan / recreate them... and that would solve my notebook archiving problems as well... hey Garth Conboy, have you seen this ? i think i'll send him a linky...

There a couple of companies now that are making pens that capture all the motion and strokes. One writes on normal paper, then you plug the pen into the computer to grab the digital version. Most of these are focusing on data capture, OCR'ing the handwriting and capturing with an application that syncs to databases and so on, but there are one or two who are trying to capture pen pressure, angle, stroke thickness and so on.
You'd be able to keep using old envelopes, but alas, not your beautiful pens. |

yes actually i've heard of pens like that although i haven't been following them very closely, i had the impression that they were really only interested in handwriting recognition, which is only medium interesting to me (even if i have to manually enter a few notes sometimes, i do type really fast) ; also it was a pen which could only be used with special paper (the paper had a printed dot grid which helped the pen to identify letterforms). but the sketching capabilities and different nibs and paper textures would be AMAZING. do you know the names of the ones who are working on stroke sensitivity etc. ?
i've sent the article to Garth Conboy ![]() i admit i would miss my pens. |

EDIT : never mind, i found it on wikipedia. Non-disclosure agreement, right ? truly ? wow, so you would know before anyone how these projects are advancing... [...me tries to figure out how to hypnotise Taylor / get Taylor really drunk / otherwise persuade him (coerce if necessary) over the internet, so he will talk] Last edited by zelda_pinwheel; 05-22-2008 at 09:32 AM. |

Methinks your best option is to put on something skimpy and whisper sweet nothings (in French, of course) into his auditory sensor while stroking his collosal cranial container, ZP.
