Is 5.0.0 still the current KT firmware?

Is Firmware v5.0.0 still the latest one for the Kindle Touch? Since I'm using the Touch in a region where it's not officially sold, I'm not sure that I'll get firmware updates automatically, and I was wondering if there had been any updates that I'd missed?

Yes. It is still 5.0. I hope at some point that Amazon does update it because I think that it could benefit from a refresh to make the touch more responsive, etc. Have not heard or seen anything about the possibility of updated firmware. But I am sure if it comes out, it will be posted here by the first person who gets it or hears about it! |

Personally, yes, I do. It's much smaller and lighter, and the touch interface works extremely well.

Now I'm curious. Where do you see what version is on the KTouch? I've looked on the menu and settings but have not seen it. I do agree it needs an update, however. Mine seems like the response is rather slow. TIA.

It's actually a little amazing there haven't been any updates yet, considering how much is 'new' about Kindle Touch vs previous Kindles. K3 had something like 3 or 4 updates in the first month. Fire has already had 2. Hope that means they are hard at work at new features rather than bug fixes (e.g. screen orientation options, KF8, internationalization, etc.). In terms of bug fixes, I would like to see reduced 'ghosting'. Responsiveness seems ok to me, or as good as my other touch devices. |

As for improvements, for me, a little less ghosting (though mine's really minimal), and a bit darker font/more contrast/user adjustable contrast would be nice. Of course, user changeable screensavers and fonts that didn't require a jailbreak would make it damn near perfect. (Right, V, dream on...!) | |

You can completely eliminate that right now. Just force it to refresh on every page turn. Just go home screen->menu->settings->reading options->page refresh. I think that I'm irritated more by the page refresh than I am by the ghosting. Still it's a bit disappointing that the Kindle Touch has more ghosting than the Nook Touch when they're doing the same trick (of only refreshing 1 in 6 page turns). |
