A Game of Thrones

I'm trying to finish the first book in A song of Ice and Fire, but school is interfering It's really weird I usually love a book, then hate the series or movie they make from it cause its nothing like what I visualized. I found the TV series first this time and I'm kinda in love with it right now and patiently awaiting season 2.

This is where I'm at. I liked the first book, but didn't love it. It was waaaaay longer than it needed to be. I really don't get all the hype. Perhaps it was much better in the original Swedish?

I agree with the advice already given - it is worth persevering. However, I would recommend Hunger Games as well, as a fun YA read.

I read the first three books before watching the TV show and I found the show to be a faithful and well-executed adaptation of the books. The books are better (well, when are they not? Except maybe in the case of "Dexter"), but the show is a good condensed version of the books.

Just finished:

- The Land of Mist by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - I enjoyed this the least of all the Professor Challenger stories, mainly because of the obnoxiously anti-skeptic, anti-science message it had. Every character in this novel that is skeptical of the existence of ghosts is corrupt, beats children, is a bully, or is at the very least cynical and uncaring. With the exception of the main character, Malone, who starts out skeptical but becomes a believer halfway into the story.

It is also less a novel with a three-act structure, than a bunch of supernatural encounters followed by arguments between characters about the supernatural nature of these encounters. Conan Doyle was a fantastic writer, but he let his emotions and personal beliefs outweigh the narrative, and it became more about convincing his readers of the merits of Spiritualism than actually telling a solid story.

Currently reading:

- 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami (60%)

- No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy (31%)

- 11/22/63 by Stephen King (14%)

- Bossypants by Tina Fey (~14%) (audiobook)

eBooks I will be reading as soon as I finish these:

- A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin

- God, No: Signs You May Already Be an Atheist and Other Magical Tales by Penn Jillette

- The Nerdist Way by Chris Hardwick

- The House of Silk: A Sherlock Holmes Novel by Anthony Horowitz

Books I'm on the waiting list for at my library:

- Plugged by Eoin Colfer (ebook)

- The Night Eternal by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (audiobook)

Tonight I'm going to start reading The Riverhouse by G. Norman Lippert and this one is not free. You can get a copy here for only $1.99.
I've been reading The Riverhouse by G. Norman Lippert and though I've been enjoying it quite a lot, I really missed the Wizarding World of author G. Norman Lippert's James Potter series which I recently finished. The last book ended in a sort of cliff-hanger way, so I left that world kind of abruptly.

In response to this I took a short break and read 2 short stories by G. Norman Lippert that are connected to that Wizarding World, Harry's First Christmas and Merlin's Gift. I liked them both a whole lot. Harry's First Christmas serves as a back story for the Harry Potter books and Merlin's Gift as a back story for the James Potter series as well as ties in as a back story for several myths and fairy tales.

Anyway, now back to The Riverhouse!!

It was OK. One or two of the shorter stories I really liked, especially "Familiar Territory". The longer first story was OK, but not very magical to my mind.

Next up: another from the May sale. By an author new to me, Keepers of the Peace by Keith Brooke.

Just finished Dracula by Bram Stoker. I was recently in Whitby in the UK and that was the town that inspired Stoker to write the book. So I grabbed it out of the Patricia Clark Memorial Library and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Next up: Moonwalking with Einstein

I finished Florence and Giles. I really enjoyed it and like the use of Florence's dialogue and made up words.
I was quite disappointed with the ending though. I thought the author could have ended it far far better and it seemed rushed.
I loved 95% of it though.
