Good idea!

Well, just to confuse things further...I was having the problems charging while sleeping that others had, but today the Vox behaved beautifully. It has been asleep all day, and when I turned it on tonight the charge is full. Seems like every day is a new surprise!

My daughter, who got a Kobo eReader for Christmas last year, gave me the Vox for my birthday last month and is expecting a Vox from her husband this Christmas. While I've only seen one instance of the sleep bug in the 2 weeks since I've had it, what I'm reading here is downright scary. I'm wondering if all Vox users are having problems, or just those who frequent forums, tweak them and root them and load them up with a zillion new apps? Surely Kobo will have a new update with bug fixes available before a whole slew of new users power up their new toys on Christmas morning.

I know there are at least a few of us on these forums who don't root their Vox. I certainly have done VERY little to change it from its original form (I am having the sleep-of-death problems). I also know that there are a few people on the forums who have had no problems at all.

From what I can tell, Kobo is working very hard to figure out a solution for these issues and I am confident that eventually there will be an update (or a few) that makes the Vox problem-free. That being said, I'm not gifting the Vox to anyone this Christmas who I know won't be patient to wait for these things until I know these issues are solved.

(I have said this before, but I will repeat, these issues are frustrating but it doesn't make the Vox unusable - at least not for me. I've gotten into habits of turning off the Vox instead of putting it to sleep when I'm out and leaving it on wifi-never sleep when I am at home to avoid the frustrations of the sleep-of-death).

Thinking back on my idea with regards to the sticky thread, it's a double-edged sword. It would let people who get the problems know they're not alone, let them know potential solutions and let them know that Kobo are doing their best to fix the problems, but at the same time it might draw negative attention to Kobo and convince people not to buy them.

There's already enough people returning their Voxes because of the number of issues. It would be a shame for more people to avoid what otherwise is a very nice device.

Another victim of "sleep of Death". No matter what I do, if I set the unit down flat it goes into full shut down. Recovery is tedious. Would not recommend this device, be embarrassed to gift it and am seriously considering returning them. My wife and I each have one and they both have the problem.

Hate to call it junk but it sure doesn't enhance Kobo's reputation. Canadian eh!

It is definitely frustrating, but I am taking solace in the understanding that Kobo is working hard to fix it, and from a recent post in one of these threads, Kobo hopes to have a fix available by Christmas.

My suggestion? When you're using it often, put it on wifi-never sleep (airplane mode off). When you know you won't use it for a while, turn it off. This seems to work for most people. The great thing is that when it isn't sleep-of-death-ing, the Vox works quite well!... and hopefully we won't have to worry about the sleep-of-death for much longer.

whilst i am a little nervous about my xmas gift turning out to be nightmare the day i open it, im kinda glad to be aware of whats going on with them- irrespective of what the end result will be. I do hope that I get my one day hassle-free, but im not really holding my breath on that score given the issues a lot of you have. Im still looking forward to getting it and know that I may have to be a little patient for a while until fixes are out etc.

i think the getsatisfaction site would put more people off dealing with kobo than anything...whilst they might be trying to improve their customer service, it still looks pants with the amount of time and no online solutions to a lot of things..but then you only see the problems on there and not a heap of people who are happy with what theyve got, so who knows?.....

im glad this forum is here, warts n all and thankyou to everyone who does make it an informative place for us new to kobo etc.

Hi Laura:

Tried your suggestion but mine goes to full off minutes after being put down. A real pain.
