The standard way to measure battery life used to be the number of page turns. Which was also exaggerated by the makers, but at least made more sense than the number of days, weeks or months.

Not really. The battery life is consumed by both page turn and constant background demands. If you want the most page turns, you keep turning them as fast as you can until the battery dies to grab a bigger piece of the juice for that. If you want the longest time, you don't turn any pages and let the battery be consumed entirely by the background needs of the operating system and hardware. You need both pieces of information to get something closer to the whole picture. However, since no one can read at the fastest page turn speed, and most people probably don't average many pages per day, the time to drain the battery without page turns is probably more applicable. I know it is for me, as I don't read anything like thousands of pages on my devices between recharges.

미라솔이 나비에서 출발했다는 말이 있는데 누가 마케팅용이라고 하더군요. 마케팅용이 아닙니다.
나비의 날개에 여러 색이 있지만 빛이 없는 곳에서 나비의 날개를 볼 수 있다면 나비 날개에서 색이 없는 투명한 가루만 보일겁니다. 투명한 튜브형 가루에 빛이 통과를 하면서 빛이 나는데 미라솔은 이 기술을 사용합니다.(디스커버리인가 내셔널지오그래픽채널인가에 다큐가 있으니 궁금하면 찾아보세요)
아래 내용은 개인적인 의견도 들어가 있으니 참고하시고...

1. 미라솔의 컬러
- 미라솔은 거울로 색을 표현합니다. 나노크기의 거울이 LCD의 액상 크리스털의 역할을 대신합니다.
- 현재 표현 가능 색상 수는 256 컬러 수준으로 알고 있습니다. 256이 약간 안되는걸로 어느 기술 문서에서 읽은 기억이...
- 컬러의 단점 : 보는 각도, 외부 밝기에 따라 컬러 표현이 달라집니다. 보는 각도는 정면 45도 각도가 가장 선명한 컬러를 제공함. 태양 빛 처럼 밝을 경우 LCD라고 생각이 들 정도로 선명한 컬러를 보여주지만 형광등이나 백열등 같은 실래 밝기에서의 컬러는 조금 탁한 느낌.
- 시야각 : 시야각은 없음 180도 가까운 시야각을 보여줌
단, 각도에 따라 컬러 차이가 심하네요. 45도에서 쨍하던 색이 45도를 넘어가면서 색감이 탁해집니다.

2. 디스플레이 반응 속도
- LCD와 비교하면 많이 느립니다.
- 좌측과 우측에 콘트롤러가 달려있어서 화면을 반으로 갈라 좌우측이 따로 움직입니다.
* 단말기 보신 분이 다음페이지 넘길때 오른쪽에서 왼쪽으로 넘어간다고 하던데 그게 이 문제인것 같습니다.
* 화면 왼쪽에서 중간까지 --> 이렇게 화면이 바뀌고, 중간에서 오른쪽까지 --> 이렇게 넘어가다보니 생기는....
- FPS 15인걸로 알고 있습니다. 소프트웨어적으로 40까지 올릴 수 있다고 하나 동영상을 보기엔 무리가 있습니다.
* FPS는 퀄컴의 기술 문서로 확인한 것이고(인터넷에서 구할 수 있음), 동영상이 무리라는건 FPS를 근거로 한 추측입니다.
- 터치스크린이 지원됩니다. 교보 e리더로 PDF 보니 2포인트까지는 되는거 확인했습니다. 그 이상은??? 이건 미라솔 기술이 아니기 때문에...

3. Front Light
- 어떤 분이 LCD 아니냐고, 구형 LCD 느낌이란 소리를 해서 Front Light을 끄고 햇볓에서 보여줬습니다. 그분의 휴대폰과 함께요. '아니구나' 하시네요.
- LCD는 백라이트를 사용합니다. 색과 영상을 표현하는 디스플레이 뒷면에 라이트가 있어 이 빛이 눈으로 직접 들어갑니다.
- 그래서 LCD는 쨍한 태양 아래에서 처럼 백라이트보다 밝은 조도에서는 영상이 보이지 않습니다.
- 그리고 야외에서도 잘 보인다는 몇몇 LCD는 백라이트를 엄청 밝게 해 놓은 제품이기 때문에 눈에 좋을리 없습니다.
- Front Light은 디스플레이 앞쪽에 위치합니다. 책의 독서등 처럼 빛을 책쪽으로 비추고, 반사되는 빛으로 책을 보는 원리와 같습니다.
- Front Light을 켜면 LCD와 비슷한 느낌이 들긴 하지만 LCD 보다는 눈이 덜 피로합니다. 이건 개인 경험치이니 사람마다 차이가 날 수 있습니다.
- Front Light이 있다는건 e-ink 단말과 비교해 장점이라 생각됩니다. 별도 악세사리가 필요 없고, 잠자기 전에 잠깐 책보기 편합니다. 그리고 아주 어두울때는 Front Light을 아주 약하게 켜도 잘 보이네요. 야외에서는 끄고 보나 켜고 보나 전혀 차이 안납니다.
- 미라솔도 단점은 있습니다. 실내에서 e-ink는 형광등 불빛으로 충분히 읽을만 하지만, 미라솔은 Front Light을 켜야하네요. 사람따라 차이는 나겠지만, 끄고 보면 약간 어둡습니다.

4. 배터리 수명
- "30분씩 독서시 한달사용이라니....차라리 10분씩 독서시 세달사용이라고 하죠."
- 어떤 분이 교보 사이트에 올린 댓글이네요. 어디 가서 저런 멍청한 소리 하지 마세요. 저사람 분명 킨들은 배터리 오래 가는데 교보 e리더는 형편없다고 할 사람이에요.

- 이게 킨들의 배터리 수명입니다. 그리고 e-ink 단말의 기본 usability inspection model입니다. 이 모델을 기준으로 Nook이 7일이고 아이패드는 더 짧을거에요.
- 미라솔이 백라이트가 있으니 켜고 했을거라 생각합니다. 그럼 킨들보다 배터리 사용성은 좋다는 소리입니다.
- 제 안드로이드폰 배터리는 대기모드에서 3일 가고, 갤탭은 대기모드로만 1주일을 못넘기네요. 하루 30분씩 쓰면 3일도 못갑니다.

5. 사이즈
- 미라솔 디스플레이의 최대 사이즈가 현재 5.7"입니다.
- 1년쯤 후에 8인치인가? 나온다네요.
- 내년에는 4인치짜리 스마트폰이 나올수도 있을 것 같습니다.(퀄컴이 국내 모 업체에 자주 방문을 하고 있어요)
- 5.7인치인데 4:3입니다. 와이드가 아니에요. 가로 크기를 비교하면 갤탭 7인치와 거의 같습니다. 킨들 파이어 보진 못했지만 7"의 와이드인걸 가만하면 킨들 파이어와 비교해도 가로 사이즈는 차이 안날거에요. 세로가 손가락 한마디쯤 차이날듯.
- 제 폰이 4.3"이니 5.7"가 작아보이기도 한데 폰으로도 책 잘 읽고 있어 5.7인치가 텍스트 위주의 책을 보는데 작다는 생각은 안들어요.
- PDF로 된 책을 보기엔 정말 많이 부족합니다. 5.7"여도 해상도가 1024*768이라 e-ink의 640*480과는 비교할 수 없이 선명하지만 크기가 작은건 어쩔 수 없어 보이네요.

6. 수명
- 미라솔의 단점 중 하나입니다.
- 위에서 미라솔은 거울로 빛을 표현한다고 설명 드렸는데, e-ink가 반은 흰색, 반은 검은색인 둥근 잉크 입자가 위아래로 움직이면서 글자를 표현한다면, 미라솔은 거울이 위아래로 움직이며 색을 표현합니다.
- 거울이 위아래로 움직이려면 기름이 잘 칠해져 있어야 하는데 이게 시간이 지나면 뻑뻑해 지겠지요.
- 미라솔 수명은 3년 정도로 알고 있습니다. 3년이 지나면 멈춘다는게 아니고, 3년이 지나면 움직이지 않는 거울이 생겨 데드픽셀처럼 보일 수 있다는거에요.

* 수명이 있다는 것에 오해가 있나봅니다. 미라솔만 수명이 있는게 아니고 디스플레이는 모두 수명이 있습니다. 미라솔의 단점은 3년이라는거고 일반 LCD역시 5년 정도로 길지 않아요. 다만 LCD는 색이 탁해지고 어두워지는 문제라면 미라솔은 다른 형태로 나타난다는 차이가 있을 뿐입니다.

7. 가격
- 편들려는건 아니지만 교보가 노력 많이 한 것 같습니다. 어쩌면 멍청한 짓을 저지른 것일수도 있고요.
- 제 기대 가격은 $250이고, 예상 가격은 40만원쯤 이었습니다. 그래서 바보짓이라고 한거에요. 비쌀 수 밖에 없는데 만드니까.
- 미라솔 패널 가격이 장당 $70~$100 사이입니다. 디스플레이 하는분은 알겠지만 디스플레이도 등급이 있는데 교보e리더는 A급인것 같네요. 그럼 $100짜리일거고, 단말기 부품 원가만 따져도 $250은 나온다는 소리에요.
- 디스플레이 뺀 나머지 부품 값을 $150으로 잡았으니 높게 잡은건 아닙니다. 여기에 공장 마진 붙고(대당 10% 이상), 개발비 붙고(최소 5%), 운송비 붙고(1%), VAT 붙고(10%), 관세(8%) 붙고 하면 $350 밑으로는 나오기 힘들어요.
- 교보문고가 349만원으로 파는데 현재 환율로는 손해본다에 교보 e리더 한대와 500원 걸지요 ㅎㅎ 40만원 정도는 나와야 손해 안볼거에요.

8. 이건 미라솔은 아니지만... 교보 e리더의 안드로이드에 대해...

- 킨들 앱 좋네요 ㅎㅎ 근데 영어로 책을 볼 실력이 안되서... ㅜ.ㅡ
- 정보를 좀 드리자면, ADB 서버 막혀있네요. 아예 안넣은 것 같습니다만....안넣었다고 못넣는다는 소리는 아닙니다 ㅋ


끝으로...
게임은 깔지 마세요. 동영상도 비추입니다. 텍스트 보기엔 딱 좋네요. 아이패드, 갤럭시, 스마트폰, E-INK 다 비교해도 미라솔 만한게 없습니다. 텍스트라고 교보 eBook만 볼 이유 없잖아요 ^^ 위키, 트위터, 페북, RSS, 신문...... 텍스트용으로는 최고인 것 같습니다.
게임하고 동영상 보실 분들은 아이패드 사세요. 아이패드가 제일 좋네요. 사견이니 여기에 대한 악플은 안받습니다 ^^
