What exactly is the definition of a tablet by the way that NT and KF are missing that Joe/Jane can take offense with?

Both these devices I can read, listen to music, watch video, play games, surf the web etc. etc. so basically have fun and enjoyment with. If a tablet by definition should be more computer like, things missing for the price I can deal with that other more expensive devices ("tablets" or computers) have since I own a desktop computer and a SGT.

However, if I feel one of the aforementioned devices does things a bit better or what I'm more comfortable with how I do things and it is more convenient than the other then that would be my main focus.

For me it comes down to the usage pattern. I need a tablet device to read and surf the net in bed so I don't have to lug my laptop and/or use a light to read on eInk Kindle, to have something portable when outside, and as a primary connected device when on vacations/trips. I don't really watch that much video or listen to music on it.

Fire seemed like it would fit the bill. Unfortunately like I said, the screen just isn't high-enough resolution and Kindle app is no different that on any other device. While I'm sure at $200 the screen is as good as it gets, it's disappointing that Amazon didn't create a superior Kindle experience, maybe with collections, page numbers, better page transitions, and faster book scrolling. I have way too many books to not have them grouped, and it's annoying when a dual-core tablet has a problem scrolling backwards in a book.

Wonder if it'll be priced less than $400 (and not $399 ).

The screen is as "high resolution" as they come so I don't know what your issue is with that. The operation of the Fire is fine, you are just nit-picking and trying to make it sound bad for some reason.

If you want a reason then just say it doesn't have cameras or gps or bluetooth, but jeezus man you are stretching to find something wrong that simply isn't there. It was never there, and you should have known it before you come in here whining that it's not a tablet, not a computer, can't use it outside in the bright sunlight, it doesn't have 4G LTE, not enough memory, the speakers suck cause they're both on one side, there's no microphone so I can't make phone calls, I wanted to use photoshop on it and it won't even do that!

P.S. Go get an iPad!

Lol, I'm sorry I don't like the Fire, it's obvious I'm just crazy and whining because it's the best device on the market. I'll go now and ponder the error of my ways.

It's not for everyone but the Screen is the highest quality. I agree it's too bright for night reading. I use the Screen Filter app it works on any Android device. It puts a grey layer on top of the screen you can then adjust it to the level transparency you want. This makes the Fire very readable at night.

The screen is definitely very good, especially compared to the 7" Acer or the other cheapos. It's just the resolution that for my use as a heavy ebook reader is a bit low. I've seen the T-Mobile Springboard at 1280x800 at 7", and while the screen itself wasn't as good, the crispness of the text was great. The SGT 7.7 is supposed to have the same res, that's why I'm hoping it will be priced competitively.

Oh, OK, so you're looking for 1280x800 in a small form factor. That should be very nice. My 9.4 inch tablet is 1280x800, so I can imagine how great that would be on a smaller screen.

Ah, just noticed you have the Sony. Sorry if it's off-topic but I have to ask - how is your screen holding up? When I returned the Fire, I was playing with the SGT 8.9 and Sony S, and I really liked how the Sony fits in the hand in portait mode. To be honest, I was thinking about picking one up to try, but I noticed that the display model had a lot of scratches. I understand that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass, so I was just wondering how does it hold up during normal use, not being abused by shoppers.

Are you referring to the 7 Plus...or the pending release of another tab on the 19th...?? I read somewhere in the past few days of the new release was looking at 499 and 599...(with a data subscription as well..) Just didn't know what carrier yet as it has a phone...and the release of ICS...(Ice Scream Sandwich or 4.0) Ill try and find the link(s) that I saw...If you are referring to the 7 plus, I could find it any cheaper than 399 at Best Buy....
