				Genre or general

I suppose most of us have at least one pet fiction genre, but do you just read books from your favoured genre(s) or do you branch out over many topics in your book reading?

I'd probably get bored out of my mind if I had to stick to a genre.

I'm all over the place, but I do tend to avoid some genres. I stopped reading horror after university and I don't read romance or historical fiction for the most part. Anything else is totally fair game and this year I've read: fantasy, science fiction, Classics, literature, fiction, mystery, contemporary fiction, young adult, non-fiction (parenting, information architecture, urban planning). A favourite genre would probably be fantasy which would account for about 17/51 books this year and then contemporary or modern fiction. |

I'm generally not bound to my genre of choice and will read all around. But, when I'm looking for something new, I almost always start with my bread n' butter.

I will read anything that tickles my fancy, it's specific authors I avoid. 1 bad or distasteful book but not too. I'll forgive anyone

I'm all over the board. I always seem to come back to speculative fiction a lot, but I'd never be able to limit myself to a specific genre for any length of time.

I tend to be very varried when it comes to chosing what books to read. If the synopsis interests me and I have the money for it, I would buy and read it. It doesn't matter what genre it is. Though I tend to avoid detective/crime novels and romance novels. Can't stand those, but everything else is fair game. |

When it comes to fiction, I tend to stick to a fe genres that I like and certain authors. I will try a new author in the genres I like but I do not seem to have the tolerance to try new authors who write in genres that aren't my favorites. I also note that the same holds true as regards nonfiction -- that is, I stick within certain genres -- although I do not have favorite authors whose work I always buy. I will read, for example, biography, but not autobiography or self-help. |

I have many preferred authors and several preferred genres. Still, once upon a time I had none. If I had limited myself at an early age to a few favorite genres, I would still be reading only fairy tales and comic books. There are thousands of books I would like to read based only on authors I like. Still I tend to veer of into uncharted territory quite often and generally I am pleased with the result. Helen |

My favorite genre is "whatever is on sale/free". I'll often pay for later books in the series if they are reasonable and the first is free.

I have eclectic tastes in most things including books. As a previous poster said, I would be bored silly if I stuck to only 1 genre. Variety is the spice of life! |
