The problem is that there is still noticeable ghosting in the background despite a fullscreen refresh(at least it seems like one since there was a full-page "black flash"), such as the transition from Home <-> book, screensaver <-> book, or screensaver <-> home. However, if I do a full refresh again when I'm in a book(bring up the menu, then hide it again), all the ghosting will be gone.
So once I start reading a book for couple of pages, it's not big of an issue anymore. That's why I'm somewhat optimistic that this can be fixed through a firmware update. At the moment it's still annoying to wake up & start from a "dirty page" though.

Yes that is what I am seeing as well. I might even go further and say that under certain undetermined conditions, full refresh does not completely clear the background. But I can't repro it at the moment.

**Fixed Ghosting and quickened pg turning by updating firmware***

My Kindle Touch had pretty bad ghosting when powered off before it updated its firmware to 5.1.0 something (its supposed to update itself when it sleeps for a period of time with the WiFi on). Previously it was firmware vers 5.0.something . You can also manually update the firmware yourself by connecting to your pc and dropping the update file from amazon onto the drive that says Kindle (from My Computer).
