Kindle Fire, sideloaded books and synching - Page 5

*sigh* Finally updated calibre so my Fire is now recognized (and Touch). Removed the books currently on the Fire and re-sent them using calibre this time. Before I simply saved to disc. Removed the [pdoc] tag previously and calibre still placed books in the document folder on the Fire. Re-converting using [ebok] now.

If you are emailing them to your Kindle they will be Personal docs no matter what. The process adds that in the conversation. You have to sideload the books on the Fire and Kindle for it to work.

You're talking about the setting 'Accelerate page loading' correct'.

Oh then it should work. Just make sure that both files are identical on both Kindles.

Yep. Silk servers was down last night so I turned that off to see Facebook.

I actually have mine unchecked. It seems fast enough even with it unchecked.

Me too. I think it is faster with acceleration disabled. Perhaps in the future after the Amazon Silk servers have a huge amount of data to work with it will work, but currently not so much.

Wasted an hour re-converting with the [ebok] tag! Turns out the books are still in the documents folder but they DO show up under Books. When I simply removed the [pdoc] tag I saw the books in the documents folder and just assumed they wouldn't show up under Books. Didn't bother to check!

Unreal. Now I can finally test syncing.

It was established that it doesn't matter which folder it is in. Books or Docs. I put mine in Docs.

2-way syncing of sideloaded books between the Touch and Fire works consistently!!! Wow, it's practically instantaneous. No lag time for server updates at all. Barnes and Noble can keep their NOOKcolor/Tablet/STR along with the SD card slot. I have no regrets.

Okay here is a new twist via 6.2 update. Last night before today's update I emailed to my Fire an ePub converted to mobi by calibre. It showed up in the Docs section as expected. After the 6.2 update it showed up in the Archive and I downloaded it from there and that placed it in the Books section. Hmmmm

. Still won't fricking do the complete Whispersyncing though.

I tried again tonight with a different book and I seem to be able to sync between the touch and the fire as long as I close the book on each device before switching to the other device.

In DiskAid make sure you go to Preferences>Advanced and tick off Show Root path for apps
