Sigh... for some reason, holidays make me feel sad.
But my favourite would be historical fiction though. I'm a huge history junkie (as a hobby; studying it would kill my interest) and when put in fictional form, it makes for an interesting learning experience as well as and relaxation at the same time. And, it does help me remember that there will always be someone who is worse off than I am. |

I hate, hate, hate these dark, dreary, chilly days, but it doesn't affect my reading choices. I just read whatever I'm in the mood for that day, and I always have two or three books (of different genres) going at a time.

I find I get through the winter better with the full spectrum or natural sunshine florescent lights. Usually quite bright. Then I can read almost anything I want - meaning no horror, but almost anything else.

There's whole different seasons outside? One more reason to just stay indoors, I guess. Better climate-control, anyway.
I read what I read... and what I read is rarely affected by mood/season/weather. I'm utterly boring. |

I read a lot of domestic fiction in winter or at least, I think it is called so. Books like The diary of a Provincial Lady, Miss Read's books, Henrietta Goes to War, Mrs. Tim and the Regiment - this is the one I am reading right now.
Mind you, I live in the sunny Spain so I can't complain, but I do empathize with you. Here, it's getting dark at six o'clock and that's already depressing enough for me, I get sleepy when there is no natural light and do not feel like going out or doing anything. British writers talk a lot about the weather and that soothes me, reading about people who get on with their lives inside their homes when it's dreary outside. |

I have never been affected by SAD. I love all of the different seasons. When it rains I am just as happy as when the Sun is out. The rain brings life to the world around me. The sounds of water dripping from tree leaves is relaxing. The sound of rain on a tin roof reminds me of my childhood and is so relaxing it puts me to sleep. It is so nice to kick back and read a book when it is raining outside. And yes it rained all day yesterday.

I am usually affected by this. I normally don't read much during this time, but if I do, it is usually some form of historical fiction with some classical music in the background (I know... pretty boring!). I do not read for long periods of time, but just in little snippets until I get bored with it and move on to something else.
Please bring on the spring!!! |
