Well I haven't seen anything of note at the cinema this year, but I recently thoroughly enjoyed True Grit on DVD very much. I know this is from last year, but I'm a little bit behind with movies at the moment

Harry Potter 7.2

Yeah. Looks like both are out on DVD. I think that Caps came out at the end of October.

Yeah "True Grit" was great, much better than the old one.

I just saw Melancholia. It is a good arthouse film by Lars von Trier. I'd put it in my top 5 so far this year.

I saw Shame--an awesome performance by Fassbender (definitely oscar worthy...he is one of the best actors working today and this film proves it without a shadow of doubt.) It has a lot of naughty bits and earns its NC-17 thoroughly. This is also one of the best performances by Carry Mulligan.

I saw a Dangerous Method. Knightly's performance is very very hard to watch. It is quite ugly...I've never met a person with the condition of the character but I think Keira might have over done it. It is an intriguing film though....but not for everyone.

This past year I only got out to see three movies in the theaters, all with one, the other, or both of my teenaged kids.

Super 8 -- We all loved it!
Harry Potter (the last) -- A good movie (my daughter cried)

Honorable mention:

The Green Lantern -- I was a big fan of the comic book in 4th grade, and this was a pretty faithful update. My son enjoyed it, but this wouldn't have made his "best" list.

I'm pretty much burned out on Superhero movies so I haven't seen any of those this year.

Two of the best movies I've seen this year are Hugo and 13 Assassins.

I thought Mission Impossible 4 was very entertaining.

Midnight in Paris was a charming little tale--it's a small film and doesn't try to be too much...it's just a nice little light movie.

I thought Bridesmaids was funny but not quite worthy of its critical praise.
