One book you could try is "If Only It Were True" by Marc Levy. It's a supernatual romance that doesn't feature vampires, werewolves, zombies, or mermaids.

C. E. Murphy has a series where the hero is a gargoyle. The first book is called "Heart Of Stone".

This reminds me of "Gargoyles," an excellent animated series. The main characters were all gargoyles who ended up in modern-day New York City due to a magic spell that caused them to be permanently turned to stone until the spell was broken (they are normally stone only during the day). One of the best things about the series is that at certain points it touched on the various mythologies from around the world. Although it's not a major part of the series, there is a element of romance in the series between two of the lead characters, a human detective and a gargoyle.

What about Dragons!? Thea Harrison's Elder Races books are also in my list (that never seems to shrink, only to grow *sigh*). The first one is called Dragon Bound.

If I had the desire to read paranormal romance novels I'd try one of Shannon K. Butcher's books. She's the wife of my favorite urban fantasy author, Jim Butcher who writes The Dresden Files series.

I'm currently reading Richelle Mead's Eugenie Markham series (I think it's the Dark Swan series?). I finished Storm Born this morning and have just started Thorn Crowned. The focus is on Faerie and assorted other mythological creatures - no vampires, angels or werewolves yet, though there is a kitsune (sort of a werefox). It reads like Kim Harrison in Laurell Hamilton's Merry Gentry setting. I also recently read the first in Mead's Georgina Kincaid Succubus series, which has angels/demons/vampires, but the main character is a succubus.

Oh! I had another thought. How about demons? Diana Rowland has a series about a demon summoner/cop that I like quite a lot. First one is called Mark of the Demon.
Edited to add: These books are definitely more UF than PNR now that I think about it. If you're okay with that, give them a try. Last edited by Coralm; 11-29-2011 at 01:10 AM. |

The Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead? Angels and vampires play supporting characters, but she is a succubus. It is more urban fantasy than romance, but good.
Edit: Oops just noticed this was already mentioned. |
