Lucky you! I'd love to take advantage of that deal too. Target won't ship to Canada though

Target opens at midnight Thursday night.

Normal days, they close at 9pm or 10pm.

If you do not live near a store, Best Buy is also offering the Nook STR for $79.99 online right now... This is $60 cheaper than the Kindle Touch (with no ads)! Gotta love competition...

The white border is rather ugly. Too bad B&N didn't match Target's $69 price earlier in the week.

I was in both Barnes and Noble and Best Buy today with my daugher checking out the Nook tablet Kindle Fire for her not very geeky husband for a Christmas gift. Best Buy was too busy to look for the cable for the Fire (apparently it doesn't come with?) and lines were so long with no bargains that she decided to buy it online or purchase the Nook tablet next door, so that was our next stop. What a difference.. The staff was so polite , helpful and happy... The ereader area had recently been enlarged and totally revamped and well staffed. A nice young man showed her all the features of both the smaller Nook as well as the new tablet.
The entire toy department had a 50% off each patron's first purchase and it was a true 50%. We each purchased an expensive lego toy and headed off to the cafe for a coffee and discussion of which ereader to purchase. What a nice place to shop on a gruelling shopping day..

That reminds me of something that happened to me years ago when I still went out on Black Friday. I stopped at a chain office store (either Office Depot or OfficeMax, don't remember) to grab their ad, because it was missing from the paper. I was shocked when I walked in. Here it was, Black Friday and there were only two other customers in the entire store. The staff was very eager to help me. When I asked about the ad, they said that corporate had decided not to participate in Black Friday. No wonder the store was so empty; no BF sales. So I thanked them and headed to Best Buy next door.

Can you imagine the lost revenue they suffered for those three days? Anyway, the following year, they were participating again and I picked up a few items.

If anyone is interested, the barnes and noble ebay page is currently selling refurbished nook colors (along with the 1yr warranty) for $119. It's probably the best tablet available at its price point.

Darn, you just cost me almost $150 (with sales tax and a discounted cover)!

Just kidding! Thanks a lot! It will be nice gift for the 13-year old girl that got a classic Nook last summer and loves it to bits. Can't beat the price!

I might assume so in theory, but experience tells me I won't know unless I'm looking at the physical object. Those who did buy them might even prefer them depending on their fashion sense and the covers they tend to use. And it's very possible no one will get a second chance to try one out for $79 (since you can return them to the store for 14 days after, you can look at the border and decide whether you like it over time).

And there are people who don't want to be forced to buy anything else at Target to redeem the money they saved.

The stores that went nuts on Black Friday this year, to the extent of opening in the middle of the night, got a lot of blowback from it. When I was at B&N wiating for them to open (at their usual time), there were several comments - all of them favorable to B&N.

(My own employer did a modest BF sale, but nothing spectacular. Our overall sales were down over last year - but your gross margin dollars - and profits - were not only up, but up by quite a bit. And customers also appreciated that we didn't make them stand in line for hours only to find out we'd sold out what they were there for within minutes of opening.)
