should I stay or should I go??

So, I bought one of these Sony T1s that freeze and crash but apart from this problem, I love it.

I've arranged with Sony to have it sent back. They were a bit slow about it, otherwise it would have been back with them already, but now it looks like it's being picked up tomorrow or Friday.

However, I'm having some second thoughts I first thought send it back until they've sorted it out, and then maybe buy a new one a bit later one when it's certain that the problem has been sorted (at which point the price here might even have gone down a bit).

On the other hand, if there really is a fix at the end of the month, I could just keep it and wait for that. But I don't feel confident (yet at least) that whatever comes will fix the issue permanently.

What do you guys think? Keep it or send it back?

Well, I've kept mine. I'm happier to keep it than I would have been if it had been on Sony's own operating system as I'm sure that its going to be hacked to pieces over the next year or so. Even if Sony can't/won't fix it the Android community will.

Issue has been fixed and will be released by end of the month.

Not to pick nits, but until a firmware update is released it has not "been fixed." Even the post you linked to does not claim that the problem has "been fixed" only that they promise to release a fix at the end of this month.

But I agree the OP might as well stay with it. The rooted readers don't have the problem of page turns / freezing.

This update is designed to resolve the dictionary, freezing and page flipping issues users have been reporting to Sony in the last few weeks.

Quoting it doesn't change the accuracy of my post in the slightest, until a firmware update is released it has not "been fixed."

Hmm, you said that Sony doesn't claim to fix the issue and wanted to show that it certainly does say the issue has been fixed.

Resolved an issue = problem has been fixed.

Maybe I think too much like an engineer and not an end user, but I'd imagine that support wouldnt' want to get our expectations so high by promising a fix by end of the month unless they were totally confident that it would be released and issue is really resolved.

Thanks, everyone.

My interpretation is more like wanthny's. Until it has actually been released AND been proved to fixed the issues, it's not yet resolved in my book. 'Designed to resolve' is different than 'resolved'. But I see the point of those saying I might as well hang on to it.

How exactly do I update the reader If I keep it (once this has been released)? I'm totally clueless about these things...

@jojoba if the only problem you're having is the freezing / page flipping thing I would keep it. If you have other problems you may want to send it back.

The following is off topic, feel free to ignore.

Resolved an issue = problem has been fixed.
Scheduled for release does not equal problem has been fixed.

I am preparing to turn in after working the night shift, but no where in their post quoted below do they say the problem has been fixed. The person posting this on the 19th of November has a reasonable expectation that the problem is in hand and the bugs will be worked out, tested and ready for release at the end of the month.

There is a difference between scheduled for release and been fixed. Surely you understand that these things are not the same.

Being so imprecise in the use of language is not enough like an engineer in my book and too much like an end user.

I'm going to bed now.

Huh... so what was the firmware update I loaded on my reader last night? (It was 1.0.0.2.xxxx something). I don't plug my reader to my computer very often so I was surprised to see it drop down. So in another week there will be another firmware update? Coolness.

Supposed to fix a problem with e-books with some shop(s), not sure if Sony ever said which ones.

FWIW, Cool Reader on my rooted PRS-T1 has had a few crashes when reading one large ePub (not always reproducible). And PDFs on Android seem quite horrid due to all the flashing (someone help me out if I'm wrong on this), and of course PDFs on the native T1 reader is *very* laggy. Sony has yet to acknowledge the PDF issues!

Good info. Weird coding in some ePubs can crash many a ereader.

What may or may not happen at the end of the month has nothing to do with today and the fact that the problem still exists on everyone's T-1 and is not fixed today.

Maybe, but since I'm not psychic I have no way to verify if it is fixed.
