General scaling option sounds great. ![]() A question. What is the difference between having dithering turned on or turned off? I never see a difference, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong area. |

The dithering option in effect sharpens the image. You lose some image quality, but it makes covers looks a lot better on eink - to my eyes, anyway.
First screenshot is with dithering off, the second with dithering on. Note that the on a computer screen, the dithered image tends to look somewhat distorted, even though it looks fine on eink. |

I wouldn't say "sharpens", since it actually adds noise.

I know, that's why I said 'in effect'. I was tempted to write "in the very particular case of this particular setting on this particular device", but decided against it
![]() When I tested the dithering option on 20-30 different covers, rather than soften compression artifacts, they all looked sharpened. You can see the added noise on a computer screen, but the main effect on the device is definitely sharpening. Can't really explain it though... |

It didn't matter how you actually describe it the two images you supplied spoke volumes. Thanks again for the explanation.

Calendar Crashes on 950
I can open the calendar app, but once open anything I try eventually ends up crashing the app and shutting down my device.
If I open and click option to bring up the menu, instant crash. If I open then click the home key to quit, instant crash. If I open and attempt to change the month or year or update any day nothing happens. Additionally the bottom command rows overwrite each other see attached. |

All games and the calendar are unstable on the x50 models, especially the 950. I don't know if there is anything we can do about it. Sorry! (They all work fine on the 600, but Sony must have changed something on the x50s...) Sincerely, Ben. |

The calendar isn't just unstable it is damaged. I fooled around with the calendar app in the last version (2.0.14) of PRS+ and it didn't exhibit this instability or overwriting of the commands as seen in the previously attached image. Later on I'll revert back to the previous version and see if maybe I'm recalling things wrong. |

The thing is I am using the calendar fine on my 650 (and my daughter's 600). My guess is the 950 requires more memory for the standard Sony system files leaving less room for "extra" stuff. (It was never designed to have the firmware flashed and people like us program extra apps for it!) Alternatively, the code for handling the wifi / web browsing / Sony store required significant changes that we cannot see in the available code. Either way, the apps don't work on the 950. I am not sure why they work even less well in version 2.1.x than they did before. Perhaps we are using even more memory to handle the extra addons (and all the extra changes) we have just added? Sincerely, Ben. |

This might be a wild stab in the dark, but we could try upping the amount of allocated memory by changing kconfig.xml.
Code:
Search "rootvm alloc=" (6 hits in 6 files) 300\kconfig.xml (1 hits) Line 2: <rootvm alloc="786432,16384,98304,4096"> 350\kconfig.xml (1 hits) Line 2: <rootvm alloc="4341760,271360,196608,32768"> 505\kconfig.xml (1 hits) Line 2: <rootvm alloc="786432,16384,98304,4096"> 600\kconfig.xml (1 hits) Line 2: <rootvm alloc="1376256,65536,126976,16384"> 650\kconfig.xml (1 hits) Line 2: <rootvm alloc="4341760,271360,196608,32768"> 950\kconfig.xml (1 hits) Line 2: <rootvm alloc="3407872,65536,126976,16384"> Last edited by quisvir; 11-23-2011 at 02:15 PM. |

+1 for that,
at least setting the 950 values to match 350/650 |

AuthorList addon very userful, but: 1. Don't refresh list after delete book(books). Real list book of author already empty, but in found in list. 2. If books place in subfolders (and primary author folder) - author duplicates. |

Save Notepad Data addon now saves Handwritings!
Quote:
Just to let you all know that I woke up early this morning (5:30am) to find that my brain had started programming and that further sleep was impossible! So I got up and added to the Save Notepad Data addon. You can now save Handwritings as an SVG and/or JPG file. And if you save it as a JPG, the system automatically refreshes, so it appears in your list of pictures! Sincerely, Ben. |
