Hi everyone, Just joined the site. I'm currently reading two books at the moment. 'Snuff' by Terry Pratchett and 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman. I do like 'American Gods' but I don't love it yet. I just can't seem to really get into it, and I usually like stories about wise-cracking Gods, etc. I'll persevere with it, though! |

So I am now reading Winner-Take-All Politics by Jacob S. Hacker. I would be started on The Temple of Dawn, the third book in the Sea of Fertility tetralogy by Mishima, but it turned out that while my local library system had one copy of Spring Snow, Runaway Horses, and Decay of the Angel it had no copies of Temple of Dawn. I suspect that it must have had all four at one point but the one was lost or stolen. So while I am waiting for a special request from outside my normal library system I decided to read something completely different, the better to understand the current state of American politics. After reading Runaway Horses once more (I read the entire tetralogy years ago) I found I liked it even better than Spring Snow. |

Highly recommended though not without flaws, one of which is being 100 pages too long. Essential for anyone who likes apocalyptic stories and is sick of vampires with polite manners.

Next Up: Dinosaur Summer by Greg Bear I bought this in the May 60% off sale, in conjunction with a 15% rebate for a large order. Net cost to me: $2.60.* Now I just have to hope I haven't read it before! *15% buywise member discount. 60% off sale. 15% rebate. Final cost = 0.85*0.4*0.85 =28.9% of RRP = $8.99 * 0.289 = $2.60. Now I remember why I bought so much in May!

My new favorite since Jim Butcher and Patricia Briggs won't write any faster. Illona Andrew's is good enough in the first book to move onto the second and really finds her pace in the third. Loving these!! |
