Calamine lotion can help bring down the swelling. Or caladryl (clear) if you don't want to look like you have leprosy!

"Ivy Dry" is good stuff too. Even when the itch-ant isn't an ivy. I've been fighting an unknown-origin itchy spot and finally tried my Ivy Dry -- poof, it's going away. Tried all sorts of other things first. Should have tried this earlier!

I twisted my ankle this morning. Luckily it's neither swollen nor bruised so hopefully it'll be better soon. I'm glad that I don't have to work tomorrow.
My mouth is also still hurting where they extracted a wisdom tooth a week ago, both the lower and upper molars are very sensitive at times. I'm glad that I don't have to work and have what in Dutch we call a "baal dag" (sulk day). |

120 mile journey to one of our offices this morning, only to get caught up in a motorway accident and the jouney ended up taking twice as long as normal. Lousy 5 hr meeting that didn't go well, then on the way home the whole motorway was closed due to another accident, and it took even longer getting home (6 hours in the car in total for what should have been 3 hrs max...).
Just unwinding now with a glass of red... |

I went by the dentist today to have a bit taken off filling. He also looked at the extraction and said it was healing nicely. It also doesn't hurt a lot and it's not on the inside in the bone itself. I think it's the irritated and bruised gums on the outside of my jaw. It mostly hurt after eating and work (lots of talking) and the irritated gums are right underneath my jaw muscle which moves over it when chewing and talking. I've always bruised easily and it always takes ages for the bruise, swelling and pain to go away. When the upper wisdom teeth were removed it also took a while for the pain to go away iirc. Also, the too big filling probably caused some sensitivity. During the day I didn't notice it much but at night it ground and pressed against the tooth beneath it. That's fixed now so I hope that some of the sensitivity will go away. Tomorrow I'm going to take it easy; curl up in bed with my Kindle and notebook. The only positive thing is that this extraction is good for my diet: because it hurts after eating I'm eating and snacking a lot less! |

A too-high filling can make all your teeth hurt - it shifts your bite pattern. Stick to soup, etc and let things calm down. Gargling with salt water or aspirin dissolved in water can help "toughen" up your tender gums and deaden the pain a bit.
It can take several adjustments to get your new big filling "just right" to fit in with the rest of your teeth. One trick - if you find yourself grinding your teeth or clenching your teeth together -- visualize a large ball bearing resting on your tongue -- that can make you relax your jaw muscles and open your jaw just enough to take the pressure off your teeth. |
