It's because they compete against the Kindle app. I don't see Amazon changing their minds. Before the Fire was released they had a check by them. The day after they're suddenly not

Mantano will work on the Kindle Fire just fine though. SlideME even has the paid version. You can download the free one there too or buy the paid version from them by downloading their market app.

Apparently, the collections still get lost after I connect my device to my PC... Yet, they're also still there (somewhere...) as books that belong to a collection won't show up when I select all books not belonging to a collection. Even though my collection list is empty... (and it took me a larger part of a saturday morning to create that!)

Is that your assumption, or is it stated Amazon policy?

I have Mantano on my Fire, I would just prefer to get it from Amazon so I don't have to manually update it. And it does not 'compete'. As a reading app, it is capable of many things the Kindle app does not and never will do.

It's what most news articles said. Amazon hasn't released anything official that I know of.

I still can't use the ODPS catalog on my calibre server. I've been using it with Moon+ since I can remember, so I know my server works. I wonder... I have my server behind a port like http://madeupip.com:8080. I don't know if that might be an issue.

On a side note, I've noticed the annotations have been seriously updated. As in I couldn't find them. But the changes where good. One gripe I had was one could not annotate the highlighted text and that is fixed. This reader is seriously becoming the best reader out there and finally usable.

If now Mantago could add the ability to zoom images this reader will finally become my full time reader. Right now without that feature I'm using Moon+ and Kindle since those are the only two that support those features.

Have you tried /opds at the end of the url? That works for me with Mantano and my Calibre server.

Has anyone else lost their collections? I had 800 books sorted into about 75 collections. I also had 1 collection that I was using to flag books that needed to be fixed. After I emptied it out I deleted that ONE collection. Now everything is gone. All my books still think they belong to a collection because the the Show Books without Collections filter is empty. I can add and delete new collections but there's no trace of the ones that matter.

If the collections didn't disappear this app would be just about PERFECT.

Nope. And it's highly annoying as I can't easily add them in a collection anymore, as I can't distinquish between those that really aren't in a collection and those that should be in a collection but where the collection is gone...

I agree, once this highly annoying bug is solved, it'll be a perfect reader for me.

Thanks Sweetpea.

Yes, I was trying to connect to my PC prior to wiping the collections. This is such a bummer because the collections were a huge selling point for me. I will set them up again but I don't want to do it again without knowing how to back up the collections file.

I guess I can dump everything into a temporary collection then pick from that list to add them to the correct collections. Twice as much work because there isn't a simple function to "move" books from one collection to the other.

I created a ticket with customer support, hoping to hear back from them.

Someone over at the Transformer Forums summed up the inadequacy of the freehand annotation quite well...

Quote:
It does a wonderful job at opening and rendering large pdf files. So, that's a plus. But you can't actually write hand written notes onto the document. What you have to do is write some stuff on there and then save as "notes" that are attached to the page. Meaning, you won't see these "notes" right on the page. You will have to open up the notes to read what you wrote. To me, this is completely useless.
Quote:
Not talking about annotations. I'm talking about hand writing straight into the pdf page itself. I'm an old fashion guy. In my old paperback books, I'd take notes by directly writing onto the pages. I'd like to be able to do the same with my pdf files. Those annotations are annoying because you have to click on them to read. I want to be able to view the page and read my hand written notes.

BTW, there's a feature request section (http://mantano.zendesk.com/forums/20...ature-requests) at Mantano for requesting, commenting and voting for features.

Cheers.

I get the same trouble with the collections.

I made a collection for my Davide Eddings books and then added sub-collections to it for each series and one for non-series work. Now the entire David Eddings collection (including the sub-collections are missing, but the books do appear I've set it to show all books.

I've given up on this feature until it's fixed.

I haven't used sub collections yet but I don't have any problems with normal collections on either of my devices. I am using 1.6.3 could the bug be an 1.6.4 or sub collection issue?

It could have started on 1.6.4. I can't remember which version brought in the collections, but I do remenber that within 1-2 updates I'd lost the entire eddings collection and sub-collections.
