Ok, i didn't know about the new repository. But there are different modifications made by other members in default repository and there aren't on the repository v2-0, so it's a little confuse.

thanks.

Pd: Kartu, were you able to convert the books i uploded to the issues from fb2 to epub?

I've seen on the user.config the addons1 is missed, so shouldn't it incorporate the follow sentence config.addonsPath = "/Data/Beta/addons1/" to use this addons1 when the prs run on sd card?

thanks

addons1 is derived from addons path, so there is no problem.
2-0 is only for 2.0.x.

I haven't had time yet to look into epub converter issues.

33% of the Cover Standby Image now extends off the screen

I assume quisvir was nice enough to make the change to the standby image handling, but I didn't see it in the change log so I don't know who to address this issue to. It seems that preserving the aspect ratio for the standby image is now the priority.

In calibre, by default, covers are set to fit to the size of the screen because over the years it has been determined that most folks want the cover to fill the screen and don't care about preserving the aspect ratio. Also in calibre there is an option for those folks that do not want this feature and wish to preserve the aspect ratio of their covers.

The last version of PRS+ acted like calibre and whether I sent the book to my 505 or 950 the cover would fill the screen. This version of PRS+ has changed the way the standby image is handled. The cover standby image is now lengthened to fill the screen and since it preserves the aspect ratio much of the cover standby image is cut off on the right and left sides.

Has it sits now 33% of the cover is cut off, spilling over the edges and if I want the cover to fill the screen on my 505 and my 950 I would have to create different books for my 950 and 505, go back to using the calibre plugin for cover standby images, or revert to the previous version of PRS+.

My question - Is there any way to have an option so one could choose preserve the aspect ratio as it is now or one could choose to have the book cover standby image fit the cover to the screen as it did so well in previous version of PRS+?

Thanks for the great work the team does and for considering my request.

Dear developers,
as you know the PRS650 has the option to creat a 'Note by keyboard' (so generating ASCII) while reading a pdf file. The result is stored in an xml-file that is quite messy. I need to extract my ASCII notes from that messy xml file. This is not that amusing.
Do you intend to program an option so that the note is just stored (perhaps also) as plain txt file? It would be great (!! :-) ) since as occasional writer I also use to write on my book when I am travelling.
Thanks for your affort!

Hi there,

Firstly, I think it would be easy enough to add preserve aspect ratio as an option, once we have got the bugs out of the latest changes.

Secondly, what you describe (33% of the image hidden off the sides) sounds like a bug. In that case, the image width should take precedence over the image height leaving white space at the top and bottom. We will certainly look into it!

Sincerely,
Ben.

are these implemented?

Hi
I see there is a Release Candidate version out there.

I don't think I saw this on the change log, so I'd like to check with you if these have been implented (they were requested some time ago)
  • Ability for key-binding a direct access to epub CSS selection
  • an automatic mechanism to "reset" the LRF books paging when you change LRF scaling (now you need to delete the books or mess around with the xml file)

Thanks!

Thanks Ben, but the current PRS+ does preserve the aspect ratio (see revision 76dd78d4e3f1.) The reason the

I would prefer to have the option not to preserve the aspect ratio and not to have any white space. I would prefer to have the image fit to the screen like it did in the last version of PRS+. I believe this revision removed the scale to fit feature.

Hi there,

The thing about making it an option is then you can turn it on or off. So I think we can do what you ask for by having an option that says "Preserve aspect ratio" which can then be turned on or off. If it is off then the image will fill the screen with no white space.

Sincerely,
Ben.

Hi there,

I have started experimenting with this. I will let you know if I get anywhere.

Ben.

That sounds great to me.

Thanks for looking into it.

I'm sorry you to hear you don't like the new standby image. I will make keeping the aspect ratio an option, instead of hard-coded behaviour.

Just to add a small correction though, nothing is 'cut off' as you call it. Rather, the image is resized to fit while keeping the aspect ratio. What you would like it to do is stretch the image out of proportion, so it fits the entire screen. The way you described it, it sounded like you were missing parts of the image itself, which is not the case (I presume).

Yolan:
Those options have not been implemented yet, but are on the todo list I believe.

Glad to hear you'll make it an option.

I understand nothing is "cut off," but since (on my 950) the standby image is currently stretched to fit the length of the screen there is definitely about 20% of the image (10% on each side) missing because the image is too wide to fit on the screen.

Yes, I would prefer that the standby image is treated the same way calibre treats (by default) its ePub cover images and fills the entire screen.

In that case there definitely is a bug, my apologies; you shouldn't be missing parts of the image. It might be that I already fixed this bug in the current (repository) version though, since I seem to remember fixing a bug like that (which was actually present in some copied Sony code, funny enough).

But I'll make sure to take another look, and fix it if necessary. Anything for a loyal user of course
