I tried to get Target to give me the price difference and they refused, even though they have lowered the price. They said that they only honor price changes that happen within two weeks of purchase, and I bought mine three weeks ago.

Technically, I could return it and buy it again (I have 90 days to do that), but they said that they would not be willing to just process the return/buyback on the computer using my receipt, nor would he let me physically return and buy back the one I bought. They said I would have to return the one I bought, pay a restocking fee, and then buy a new unopened one Unbelievable! This was the store manager who told me this; what a dirtbag. As I have not had any problems with the one I bought (freezing/page turns, etc) I am hesitant to swap it for a new one, and risk getting a lemon. Moreover, the restocking fee would be about the same as what I would save by getting the lower price anyway. Target is now on my blacklist of stores and will not get any more of my business.

Sorry to hear about the trouble you had at Target. Any chance to just call their corporate headquarters and explain the situation? That bites actually. I had other friends that refuse to shop at Target because of their return policies. This just adds another instance to their not so glowing CRM.

^This. Or call around to different Targets if you're in an area where there's more than one.

But yeah, that's lousy customer service, and will end up costing the store more than the $20 they should have happily refunded you.

Here's your solution:
Keep the T1 you're happy with at home...
Go to Target, buy a new one at the new reduced price; then return that new one using your original bill. If you're returning an unopened package, they'll probably give you a break!
It's opened packages that they want to charge restocking on...

The Target stores in my area never charge a restocking fee, even if an item is opened. I returned a 32" flat screen TV that I didn't like that was obviously opened and used. Unless it's a new store policy that's happened in the last 6 months or so?

Unless it's a tiny store with only one person at the counter who will remember you (doubtful), I'd do what Dterm said. Just be sure the serial number isn't scanned onto the receipt.

This is a manager's call and depends on the store and manager. The restocking policy of a store should be visible either at the store or on the receipt. It's always a manager's prerogative to go outside those conditions.

In the example above, you could even take the reader back to another Target.

This is the solution I would have used. Not a big deal though. If the reader was worth $149 to the first adopters to begin with it shouldnt matter now that the price dropped. Its only $20 afterall. Now if it had dropped $50 or more, yeah I would be running down to get it back.

At some point you should decide where this is costing you more (time) than your return of $20 and let the issue go for your sanity and curse Target forever. I had a similar issue with them on the PRS-650 cover where they kept sending me the wrong one. Finally I gave up. Now I just hate corporate America because I can. Customer Service is an extinct breed.

Angry WTH.

I'm not sure if it was supposed to be obvious or not, but I didn't know it was temporary! The prices are back up to $149!

So much for my wait-and-see approach(though admittedly I was hesitant to buy it because of the freezing issues, not the price)

If you can wait a few weeks, then I'm sure there will be another price drop soon. We saw prices fluctuate with sales quite a bit in the Dec through Feb months on the X50 models.

The price is back to 149, but you can get $50 off if you trade in an old ereader, any brand.

I finally know what to do with my old 900....

I sold my 505 and all the covers I'd accumulated for $50 to a coworker - I'd rather pass it on than trade it in (where it will probably just be junked or recycled).

It is currently $128 at Amazon supplied by Electronic Expo. Shipping is $7 and it appears to be tax free for me. I am in NYC.

My thinking is it would be certified refurbished and used to send to another user who has a broken 505.

The prices have all gone back to normal. Looks like the sales are over for now.
