This is not "just" about political correctness. The word is highly offensive and derogatory. There is a reason the book was officially retitled.

To be honest, I needed help from Wikipedia to fully grasp the ending. It does all come together after a few twists. I enjoyed his writing styles but probably won't read anything more from Wolfe. I really do not appreciate the jumping around with dream states used in novels. Prefer linear. Gave it a C+ [3 stars].

An experiment next. Divergent by Veronica Roth. A sort of Hunger Games(-ish) YA novel. Dystopian world where 16 year olds have dangerous initiation competitions.

I agree, and I have edited the post. Since there were no objections from the author, I see no reason to continue to use the old title. There's a world of difference between this title, and say, Mark Twain's use of the word in Huckleberry Finn. Christie's use has no redeeming literary merit.

Thank you so much!

How should I handle my post that quoted the title, so that the conversation still makes sense?

I think I've sorted that for you, but of course you can make additional changes as you see fit.

I guess it's only censorship if you don't agree with it.

Done with The Name of the Wind. Quite a good novel. In terms of story, one could say a whole lot doesn't seem to happen during the course of the novel, but the pace actually fits. Since the novel is structured around the concept of Kvothe narrating his life story to a scribe, the story progression seems logical to me. I would, certainly, expect some more significant developments in the second one, but on the whole this was quite a fun read.

About the only thing I didn't like about it was the non-love angle between Kvothe and Denna. Can't say that did anything for me. Nor, frankly, can I say I know what he sees in her. She seems like a bit of a slut if you ask me. And the 'mystery' surrounding her was already getting tiresome halfway through the book, so I really hope there isn't too much of the what's-Denna's-story in the next one. Just tell us and move on.

I really do like the novel, though. It certainly seems like an interesting series and I for one have not read a Fantasy novel structured in such a 'switching between present and flashback' sort of way, so I find it rather unique. The character of Kvothe is engaging enough, and I really want to know more about Master Elodin and Bast. And, of course, the events that eventually led to Kvothe hiding away in a hick town masquerading as an innkeeper. I would give this one an 8 out of 10. As always, I reserve the right to up/downgrade the rating in the future depending on how it resonates over time and, more importantly, how the series feels to me as a whole.

And now I shall be moving on to The Other Lands, the second installment in the Acacia trilogy by David Anthony Durham.

You're not alone there. That's a popular gripe (of those that have a gripe). And yes... it continues in the second book (nor is significant overall plot progress made in the second book). Which is a shame, because I really like how Rothfuss writes, but his pacing through two books makes glaciers look speedy.

Today, I started to read "A Long Long Way" by Sebastian Barry. It is about a soldier in an Irish regiment on the Western Front in World War I. I am about 1/3 into the book, as he is returning to France after the Easter Rising. So far, It is superb.

when reading, I always had the feeling "this is going nowhere!" I don't understand why Kvothe thought Denna was that lovely. She was... how to put it... well I guess you got the right word, Afa. And yeah in the second book their relationship continued to go nowhere, Denna still tried to find a rich man she could take advantage of, while Kvothe was still chasing after her.

I assume these are minor quibbles, right? You would recommend the book to others? I checked it out on goodreads and added it to the TBR.

4.53 rating with 27,012 ratings. Fairly impressive, as ratings go.

Just finished A Dark Matter by Peter Straub. Quite extraordinary - loved it!

Now onto another review novel - King of Paine by Larry Kahn.
