Slightly expanding with a snippet from my review:

'I thought long and hard about whether to mention Bateman as my best attempt at giving you a mark for Brennan’s territory. Clearly I’ve failed. But that’s OK. The humour, intensity and sure pleasure of the read are reminiscent of the Bateman I’ve read and, as such, if you’ve enjoyed ‘I Predict A Riot’ and the like, this one’s definitely for you.

If you’re like me and you really love the cover, you can judge the pages within by what you see in that image (great job, Pulp Press).

Mr Brennan, I urge you to go forth and multiply (in the book sense). Please.'

It's great fun.

Thanks,

Just bought it from Amazon UK. ‘I Predict A Riot’ is one of my fave Bateman books, so that bodes well. I see he has 8 book listed on Amazon - have you read any others?

It's an excellent book, but I wouldn't pay that kind of silly money for an ebook version of it!

The Kindle Store gives the publication date as July 7, 2011 (University of Toronto Press). Maybe the price will come down if I wait. But that's high, even for a recently published ebook.

Just started rereading The Three Musketeers to go along with my reading of David Copperfield. These have been on my TBR list forever!

I just got done with an excellent book - The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I don't ever re-read books but I think this is one I could sit and savor all over again. Check it out here: http://www.amazon.com/Shadow-Wind-Ca.../dp/1594200106

[self-promotion removed - moderation] Looking forward to reading more recommendations.

I read that one. Good book.

I just finished The Son of Neptune, #2 in Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan.

Now, continue with The Hobbit and The Gargoyle...

Well... I finished WWW: Watch... and enjoyed those two books. I really want to see how it ends.. but I just can't see paying $12 for a book. Yea, I know strange since I just bought a totally unneeded new Kindle touch for $99.

So, what to read next... hmmmm... I think there is one more Clare Furgeson book I haven't read yet... yep. Librarything tells me it's _One Was A Soldier_ oh wait, thats $12 too... NATCH!

I'll find something I guess. Come on Pottermore.... would you open up already.

Given my admittedly limited experience with Canadian university press e-books, I don't think the pricedrop is going to happen any time soon. They mostly seem to have not latched on to the idea that e-books are different from print books as far as value for money due to traditional resellability goes. Although McGill-Queen's does seem to have gotten the idea that some sort of discount should be offered on most text-only titles.

No, it's perfectly reasonable. The first two books in the trilogy are available in paperback much cheaper and possibly the price will drop later on the newest installment. Also, it's ridiculous to pay a $5 premium over the paperback pricing for a probably typo-riddled copy that likely doesn't include the original cover art which you can't even give away if it turns out you don't like it (all Sawyer's WWW e-books cost $13.66 for us in Canada; paid in USD at Amazon). With that and spare change, you could buy a whole other book. Do it 20 times and you've paid for your shiny new Kindle Touch, which will give you many more hours of enjoyment well above the 2-3 it takes you to read one single overpriced book.

In the meantime, you might like to try the free short stories over at Robert J. Sawyer's website if you haven't already.

Best reads, IMHO, are "You See But You Do Not Observe" (an excellent Sherlock Holmes tales), "Identity Theft" and "The Hand You're Dealt" (really good futuristic sf colony murder mysteries) and I've always had a lurking fondness for "Just Like Old Times" (beware futuristic "easy" solutions to crime).

I've read The Gargoyle and it was pretty good. Not as good as The Shadow of the Wind, but still an enchanting book. I think my next books will have to be more from Zafon because I'm craving more from him.

If you thought Robert J. Sawyer's WWW: Wake and WWW: Watch were good, you should go on to WWW: Wonder. That's the one that blows the series out of the water.

Been awhile since I posted, but I finished Friedman's "That Used to Be Us" and, although the co-authors are both left of where I sit politically, they made a convincing argument for their approach on how to right the ship. Recommend.

I also read Walter E. Williams well researched and doucmented "Race and Economics" which opened my eyes to some things I only suspected and confirmed some others that I knew already. Recommend.

Needed a break before I jump into Newt and Condi's new books so I consummed the new Nikki Heat novel "Heat Rises" over the last couple of days. If you're a fan of "Castle", and I am, the whole fictional detective based on a fictional detective is kinda clever. It's not gonna win any awards, but it was a fun romp. Recommend for Castle fans. Everybody else won't get all the in-jokes that made me smile.

I adored that book I kept my paper copy and I recommend it to anyone who will listen.

I should be finished with The Final Winter today.

I bought the hardback copy of The Angels Game by Zafon when it came out but have never got around to reading it yet.
I don't think it was as highly rated as TSOTW.

I was hoping that WWW: Wonder was in the prime Kindle Lending library... but no such luck. I guess I can see if my library has it as well.

Also a good but not outstanding issue. I especially liked Elizabeth Bear's Novella, "In the House of Aryamen, a Lonely Signal Burns" (although the title's awful!), but the other stories were just OK.

Next: F&SF, February 2005 by Spilogale Authors.

Another of the backlog of F&SF I picked up earlier this year.
