This normal behavior on a touch device even android. tapping is selecting an option, swiping is navigating. Now in a book it can be either or depending how they have it set to work.

I tried this and could not get it to work....holding your finger to the edge does nothing. If you lift your finger, it will ask what you want to do with the selected text.

So I got a new one to replace the one with a broken screen that connected fine to 3G.

This one has a working screen, but has zero 3G bars.

I've hard reset twice and ... nothing. My Kindle 3 gets plenty of signal literally sitting next to it.

I suspected as much. And no way to adjust selection? That's not good. Was expecting KT to at least match what the competition provides, not to mention what Amazon's own Kindle apps do.

Maybe I am wrong...if you are saying that the Kindle apps can highlight across pages I must be doing something wrong. I can't seem to highlight across pages on my Kindle for Android either.

I can't do it either. Are we talking about the iPad app perhaps? Can't be done on the Fire also.

Selections: Could you change (temporarily) your text size, zoom, etc to allow you to select the text you want that spans pages? Probably wouldn't help if you are selecting a whole passage, but it could help for a sentence or two.

Sorry for lack of clarity: I meant that on a touch interface, one should be able to adjust the selection after initial selection, which may not have been accurate. That is possible with K4iOS or K4Android.

I addition, it is not possible to extend selection to an adjacent page as you can with previous Kindle devices.

So it is the least functional selection feature of all.

I just wish somebody would just solve this problem, which seems common if not universal in the world of touch interfaces. Here is one way: if you selection includes the first or last word on the page, the options would include 'extend to next page', if you touch that, it would turn the page and give you a little handle that you could drag to the desired position. Et cetera.
