I am sure that the BBC will sort this out and come out with a DRM'd version of the knitting design that can only be knitted with proprietary BBC needles. Last edited by Donnageddon; 05-14-2008 at 03:42 PM. Reason: Usual; I am an idiot |

I can no more ignore a Doctor thread than I can read my Sony Reader in the dark. But really now. Knit-an-ood? Of all the aliens I'm much more likely to want to keep around it's a knitted dalek. |

I have to admit, it's probably shutting the barn door after the cows are gone. I'm sure those patterns are copied all over the place. Why couldn't she just put a disclaimer--"this is from BBC, for private use only" type thing? I know trademarks need to be carefully protected, even from innocent use, or the sharks will use that as a precedent to ignore it, so they at least need to be seen to do *something*.

Borders on "taking a picture of me will steal my soul" territory, but it's also any company's right to product a brand they own. Edit: any company or crazy tax-subsidized media conglomerate. |

My beloved husband might leave me if I knitted an Ood. He hates things with tentacles (after a traumatic experience as a child involving a drive-in theatre and a late-knight showing of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea). Then again, he might leave just because it would be evidence that I wasn't really me... I can't knit to save my life. In any case, the patterns are probably still available via the Internet Archive... as are the earlier versions of the BBC story. |

Hey, the caption on the picture of the Oods says they appeared on Dr. Who "last month." I thought they were in season 2? (I only get to watch Dr. Who on DVD, so I'm quite a bit behind the broadcasts, but I am in the middle of season 3.) Seems a shame the BBC couldn't at least have included an image of the knitted product in their article, but I suppose that's what the controversy is about. |

There's a further Ood episode in the most recent season with Catherine Tate - Planet of the Ood I think it was called.
