That much we've known, thanks. What I'm dying to find out is what can you do with the touchscreen...can you enter text, scribble notes, that sort of thing.

Does the touchscreen mean it will be PDA-like or simply that you can manage files by pointing and clicking?

It's 14th May. Wasn't something supposed to be happening today as far as a release of some sort was concerned?

I think you're going to wait just a few more hours, at least. The sun just got up here on the East Coast.

Newbie question: It looks great, but isn't it a bummer that mobipocket is not supported? Wouldn't that severely limit your book-buying options?

Today the Astak device is introduced on the IDPG show in New York.

Am I the only one refreshing Mobileread site every 5 minutes in hope of reading some early report from the IDPG show?

Maybe tomorrow we'll have some news from Astak for sure... I guess they're just busy with the IDPG...

I'm the same way, but I don't know how useful that'll be. I'll be hitting the big gadget sites too, just in case.

Some thoughts and ponderings.

- I just noticed another thing with the Mentor. You can delete books within the unit itself unlike the PRS-500. I always hated having to connect and delete.

- I just hope that the "less than $350" is not $349.99 for a sale price on the 9.7, that would be cheating.

- Since the initial sales will be through retailers I wonder if Astak would entertain selling to the forum members via a group sale at the price they would sell to the retailers. Could save some bucks for us and we could spread the word for Astak by being avid fans and using in public.

That's the least they can do, especially since they used this forum for the market research!

Don't know if you noticed, but the specs are up on the Astak web site. The six inch hardware looks like a Cybook clone, but its internal spec's (ie 1GB memory) are different.

It will still be a heck of a price for a device with that size and features. Compare with the 8inch iLiad which is $600.

If it actually comes out at $350, I might not be able to resist. I might even need to get one for DH.
