				Help with Sony T1

How do I get my T1 recognised by Calibre please ?

I've loaded 3 "test" books on my PC , to play with and get the hang of things, see what it's like with it, etc... . Plugged in T1 to PC but I have no "Send to Device" button. I've been happily using my 650 with Calibre OK for some time. Do I have to register the T1 with Calibre somehow, is that it ? I haven't done the Adobe/Reader bit - thought I'd wait 'till the Reader Store opens in UK, and the bugs are worked out of it. I have managed to wifi some books from Gutenburg etc.. so I'm that far along ! Pardon my ignorance, but it's Mr. Tech-Dunce here - I'm OK once I'm using things, it's the first step that always does for me. And half the time , it's not being able to find, or understand , the correct section in "Help" guides. ( They never seem to believe that anyone has as basic, if not tenuous, a grasp of technology as I have ... )

You need to update your calibre, T1 support was added very recently.

Now is the time to break the rule, obviously !! And thank you and your helpers for a brilliant programme - although it's much more than that. Greatly appreciated. |

What a lovely little thing Calibre is - at long last I see the complete sense in using it as my main man ! Many of us came to calibre to convert an ebook or two, then found it made a convenient reader for odd formats, then discovered recipes, then found it was good for ..... all sorts of ebook things, and ended up with it as our "main man" too!

			Well, starson, I got Caibre-ized eventually !

I haven't yet gone into authorizing, and getting T1 Sony Reader Library/software yet, mainly 'cos we in UK don't have Sony Store/Google Books yet, so am getting used to the basics - 'specially as there seem a few bugs with the reader library stuff . And I don't know if I'm really Techdumb, yo'all will doubtless inform me (!) but.... can I use Calibre with the wifi, and just bypass the Sony software requirement, which has never impressed me ? Or do I have to do the authorizing etc.. and then get it into Calibre wifi-ly ? Frankly, it's so painless to buy/PC/transfer with Calibre I can see me only browsing on the T1, but it would be nice to know if I could ! |

Most people suggest you try to avoid DRM books, If you can't completely avoid them many will strip the DRM (using tools not discussed in detail here). Calibre can send DRM'd books to/from ereaders, but can't do much else with them (can't convert to another format or change metadata.) |

I think we're into vacuum cleaner territory again, Starson !

( I happen to have one under the stairs, so all's well from that angle .............) I meant is there any way of using Calibre so I can, say, buy from a store and download it direct onto the T1 by wifi, using Calibre somehow. |

What you buy from the store is a token to get the book. You load the token into Adobe Digital (authorize account) editions on your PC and IT gets the book. You Also use Adobe Digital editions to Authorize your reader to the same account. Now you can use Calibre to store and manage the book (DRM is still intact). |

If it's got DRM, you need authorizing and calibre can't do that part.
