If you check the T&C for membership, you'll see this:

So B&N contradicts itself. The Member splash page says one thing and the T&C something else. It's an easy thing to check, if you're a Member already.

It says "new" membership. Does that mean new members that sign up when they purchase a nook? The T&C says something about June 6th 2011. Maybe it's members joining after that date.

It applies to new members signing up before or with a purchase of a Nook and also to current members who renewed on or after 6-6-11.

If your cc has the same 'cash back' function that mine does, you may not be able to combine it with ebates. In my case, both require that the purchase be made only after getting to the B&N site using their link.

As someone who doesn't shop at B&N (I tend to only read free epubs on my Sony PRS-505), the best price I've currently managed is: Refurbished Nook Touch: $79 - 3.95 (credit card 5% cash back, since I trust them more than ebates) + 4.74 (tax) = $79.79.

If I were to use the gift card 'discount' method, I would be left with at least an additional $10 gift card that I don't have a use for... not really a savings <grin>.

Yes to Ebates. No to B&N Member.

They are still selling Nook Touch refurbs for $79. If one purchases a $100 giftcard, brings the price to $59 with $20 left over minus sales tax.

With B&N selling more home goods and gift items the free shipping of membership may be worth it.

You're correct in that you can only use one affiliated cash reward link. In the past we could receive the full 8% on nook products but that ended temporarily. So now for the 8% you have to buy a gift card. I have found Ebates to be very particular in awarding your rebate which is why I preferred the credit card Worldpoints link. No guarantees with any of this, though.

My AMEX gives me 2% cash back on all my purchases in addition to any other rebate scheme. That 2% comes from FIA and is separate from other discounts. Of course, the 2% could change at any time. It seems most banks are reducing their reward programs.

For those of you guys who bought a gift card, how long did it take to receive it (the actual one, not the $10 bonus)? I ordered an eGift Card last night (November 20, 2011) and of all things I didn't expect to see in the order status, it's this:

Expected Ship Date: November 23, 2011

Right now, I'm waiting to receive the gift card before buying ebooks. The card issuer frequently puts a hold on my credit card when they see a bunch of small charges (mostly apps and ebooks) so I've taken to using gift cards instead.

I had the same problem. Has something to do with going through ebates.

I ordered it at 9:00 at night and called the next morning to see what was up. They released it (but it took me half an hour on hold, all told).

The ebates credit did show up within a couple days.
