				Nook Color 2?

Has anybody heard anything about the Color 2? The last thing I saw said B&N would release it in September or October.

It's coming, and BN is about to get a whole lot more nook-centric, too. Also, there might an announcement other than products. I haven't heard anything through official channels, though, just sort of piecing it together from the changes going on.

I love my NC and will definately be getting one of these. More than likely after Christmas or with my tax return. I am running a rooted nook color overclocked to 1.1GHz and am totally pleased. I installed Opera mini which is IMO, an excellent mobile browser. By the time I get mine hopefully the good folks over at XDA will have the rooting process sorted and I can have my cake and eat it too.

There is some reason to believe it may be more difficult to root. Requiring the boot include a BN license was one of the barriers to apps like netflix. Some feel easily rooted devices make piracy easier. Of course the original CNK will still be available with the new 1.4 OS for 199 and will remai easily rooted.

The NetFlix HD that the Nook Color 2 is getting, though, is a whole different beast (going so far as to require a TI OMAP 4 processor). It is pretty amazing that with all the competition out there, Barnes & Noble is the one to release the first mobile NetFlix HD device. You have to hope that Barnes & Noble understands a lot of the appeal of the original Nook Color is the option (not that most people actually do it...) of converting the device to a full tablet. To squander all that community goodwill at this point seems crazy, but large organizations rarely tend to be rational. |

Will people be expected to set up their shelves manually again on the device? Did they implement a way to manage shelves online or in the desktop app or sync across devices?

The rooting community is definitely excited about the better hardware. But will the average customer (who doesn't even know what rooting is) choose the new NOOKcolor over the Kindle Fire when it's priced $50 more? Will current NOOKcolor owners (who didn't root) buy the new NOOKcolor? |

The $199 Color insulates B&N from the Fire, since they offer pay the same for a bit less hardware or pay a bit more for more hardware than the Kindle Fire. A two way choice between Tablet and Fire might favor the Fire, but a three way choice Color, Table, Fire gives B&N more ways to win over the buyer. |

Hmmm, interesting. I've got two Fires on pre-order for the children. If they're offering Netlifx now and Slacker Radio (I don't know if this is in the app store), and the weight has been noticeably reduced, I may have to reconsider.

So far I'm not tempted to give up the Fire that I pre-ordered for myself. Specifically since I'm getting a Kindle Touch as well. I don't see myself going back to the NOOKtouch unfortunately. If I didn't have a Sony Tablet I'm sure my perspective would be different and rooting would be a consideration. Last edited by SCION; 11-04-2011 at 10:09 PM. |

Funny, a smaller iPad would actually be my first choice for the children.

It also says Kindle Fire is selling at a loss, wasn't it like $20 bucks that it's selling at a loss. C'mon, with the amount of content they'll be selling, a loss on hardware will be irrelevant. |

But, but but, the Nook Tablet is NOT a straight Tablet any more than the Fire is.
