There is another type which involves pressing a combo of buttons and you can sometimes lose data. Also, sometimes people confuse reset and reformat. You will definitely lose data if you reformat.

One is that push of the reset button with a paperclip. This is just forcing the restart of the processor. During restart all the registers in processor are reset to default values, address for "next to be run" machine-code instruction is re-set to default ... . This is equal to switching off the computer completely and then switching it on again. The *last* position in your *last* (the most recently read) book might be lost and when you open the book after reset you will start where you started when you opened the book last time before the reset. Then there is Factory Reset and it usually requires user to press series of buttons, and to confirm the action, because this returns the memory and on-board storage to the state it was when it came from factory. This will delete all books, bookmarks, notes, even de-register the device from your account in book-store or Library. You typically do Factory Reset before you sell the device or when you mess with it and something goes wrong. This is equal to reinstalling notebook from a recovery DVD or a recovery partition. Factory reset is simple in the device as an menu option,it re-installs the books sony have put on from the beginning, and you have to do all the language options, wifi settings and things like that.

Paperclip resetting is simple, press the reset, wait a couple of sec's and then press on/off button,no books or collections are affected. Putting it off by pressing power button doesn't work at a screen hanger, it ask for conformation and you can't press the yes or no button on the screen. Cleaning it defenitely don't help here. |

If you have the touch-screen freeze and you press the home button to exit the book before you do the reset, then you will not lose your data. After the reset, when you open the book again, it will remember the last page at which the flipping stopped when you pressed home.

Another user had to do a hard reset. He contacted Sony to get the sequence of keys, which turns out to be similar to X50 models. However, the user reported that he did not lose all of his data, which is different from warnings on the X50 models. His books were still there. Where do you find a factory reset in the menu settings of the T1? |

Isn't factory reset just a format of the main drive?

I just had another variation on the problem. I attempted to swipe to flip a page, but it highlighted a word instead. I hit the back button to unhighlight the word and pressed the next page button. The touchscreen became completely unresponsive. It did not flip pages and I could continue reading the book using the buttons. It required a reset to restore the touchscreen functionality. It is probably a different manifestation of the same underlying problem. Perhaps if the touchscreen dies while swiping, it flips pages, but otherwise it just won't work. If someone could try hitting the previous page button when the pages start flipping, it would stop the page flipping without closing the book. I believe that if it works, the book could still be read using the buttons. What appears to be a device lockup may only be a temporary touchscreen malfunction.
